A towel would be too hot and too dirty. I have never seen anybody with a towel on their head except when they are coming out of the shower....

I prefer to wear cotton or silk or a synthetic material that breathes easily on my head...

So why do people call me a towel head when what I wera looks nothing like a towel?

because they are uneducated and lack any knowledge and this allow them to pick on anyone that is different to them. Instead of valuing difference's in people the resort to name calling bullying if like. Take no notice.

It is because Americans have no imagination, and because British people are stupid enough to think that if Americans think something is cool, then it must be.
They pick on some trait of a nation, then stereotype it.
Why do the English call the French "Frogs"? Because one of the many items of French Cuisine is frogs legs. (and a more over-rated food would be hard to find). Equally, they call the Germans Krauts, because the Germans occasionally eat boiled pickled cabbage, which they call Sauerkraut. Equally, the French call the English "Roastbeefs", this being an English dish that the French find fairly repugnant!
So because a lot of middle easterners wear a kind of head-gear designed to keep the sun off, and because a few of them wear a headpiece made with a cloth that resembles a cheap tea-towel, they characterise ALL middle easterners as "Towel heads" or "rag heads".
Inane really, and part of the reason why they are unable to respect other people.

Towelhead is a nickname people have given someone from the middle east. It's a cruel thing to do. I don't know when exactly it started but it's been coming out more since Sept. 11. I really wish people would stop doing it. Just because of the few people who caused 9/11, Americans are now blaming everyone who comes from the middle east. They are so ignorant!

Towel head or Rag-head is an insult. Much like "****" during the Vietnam war was used against almost all Orientals. In almost every conflict with another people dehumanizing is used by the society to make killing/imprisoning/enslaving the enemy acceptable by the general public. There are lots of examples of this behavior tracing back hundreds of years. Rag-head/Towel-head is nothing new just different.

**edit** its a sad thing when you get the **** inserted to cover up a word in an answer that has to honestly be part of the answer to make sense. the **** rymes with dook :/

I do not consider towel head a mean or vicious epithet like the
Big N or other slurs. I work with Muslims and the term is used
regularly, but not in hate or prejudice. Charlie Daniels made
a country and western patriotic song and included the word
towel head as something not to be desired.
But you look extremely nice in your picture. I am a fanatic
Christian, but I would never show you disrespect.
God Bless You.

I wouldn't worry about what people thank of you as, just because you wear cloth upon your head it shouldn't bother anybody else. It's just a sign of your faith. See I'm a Christian, so the sign of my faith is a Bible, I'm also a virgin. So people might want to call me something like Virgin Mary, even though my name isn't Mary. All their doing is targeting someone in order to make them feel bad about there religion.

I am very sorry that your going though. Just talk to someone you love. It'll help. It helped me when someone told my class of 15 that I slept with dogs. My school has about 120 students, so It's a good thing nobody believes him, cause then I would have everybody talking bad about me during my first year in a new school.

Because ignorant people will come up with the most ridiculous terms to seperate us even more. I agree it looks nothing like a towel, so I don't know where it came from. I think they just came up with a term that sounds like an insult, because they have nothing else to say.

Trollhair; how ignorant and disrespectful are you?

and Judith; Women cover their heads because of religion. It's a barrier between the person wearing that clothing and those around and to hide from view or to conceal their beauty in society. It protects women.

Just Ignore them and move on with your life. I go with the moto "Silence is the best answer for a fool". But many people feel these doesn't help to tackle such problems. If it gets out off hand, report them to the authorities. I hope this helps.

One more thing, One answer pointed fingers on the americas. That in itself is also ignorance. I rest my case.

I don't care what you wear as long as your brothers and sisters respect the fact that I don't feel the need to cover up my head or other parts of my body.
The statement you make wearing a hajib disturbs people who feel threatened because of all the Islamic hatred going on in the world.

Because their are a minority of people who are ignorant and uneducated and really don't know any better... if anything you have to feel sorry for them.... these people probably don't wash and wouldn't really know what a towel is anyway...lol...

You go girl, stand by your convictions.... although I'm probably not the same religion as you, I will be standing shoulder to shoulder with you in spirit.
