The 12 Apostles originated as 12 disciples of Jesus Christ, called by him to leave their original occupations and follow him around Palestine. They were with Him to learn of His Ways and assist in proclaiming the great message of how the Saviour was with them in human form to meet Mankinds deepest needs. After their Leaders ressurection they are recorded in The Bible as the 11 apostles , Judas the betrayer having committed suicide. The Acts of the Apostles records Paul as the replacement, hence his great writings. All had seen the Lord Jesus in person to qualify.

Most of the apostles were fisherman, but Matthew was a tax collector and Luke was a doctor. There was some rebels that wanted to overthrow the Roman empire.

Peter,Andrew, John and James were fishermen. they were partners which means they likely owned their own boats. hardly jobless.
Matthew was a tax collector
Simon(not Simon Peter) is called the zealot. They were basically bandits who wanted to rebel against Rome but did not have the strength.
