I'll answer the second question first with another question, what do you mean by "bring back blasphemy and heresy"? I don't think it has ever gone away. Now for the first question: Heresy and blasphemy were not "invented". They are just words that mean one person's beliefs are sufficiently different from the consensus belief system that they are incompatible with membership in that religious group. To the extent that someone's livelihood depends on remaining a member of the consensus belief system, threatening to label someone as a heretic or excommunicate them has been used as a tool of control, but this is a secondary issue. A person who truly holds to his own beliefs has nothing to fear from his fellow man. Whether or not an individuals beliefs are in line with God's absolute truth (or potential lack thereof) is the only thing that really matters, not whether they conform to any particular group's imperfect understanding.

Agree and disagree. I don't see that they were doing it because someone actually didn't believe in God. It's because those who didn't believe in their God were less likely to listen to their High Priests... which was a big no-no. Invented by man for man.
Definitely. I have heard people say that they should make laws in order to either convert or get rid of those people who disagree with them. Religion is a powerful tool... more powerful than politics.

I say fudge them all. Believe what you want to believe and if they have a problem with it, screw them. No these extreme religious groups should not bring back blasphamy and heresy. It is extremely hypocritical and therefore defying the soul purpose of religion.

Blasphemy in one religion is faith in other. So man invented blasphemy law. Like there r Marxists who want 2 propagate atheism and socialism , there r the faithful 2 propagate religion and make another law against blasphemy.

You're spot on here. Fact is though that its not only a religious tool, but used in politics as well. We're losing personal liberties at an alarming rate in the U.S., but when newspapers try to report this, people are prosecuted, and the neo-cons try to make you look unpatriotic.

Until fairly recently (in historical terms), there was no distinction between civil law and religious law. Religion = state is the historical norm. We are in relatively new territory.
