Use sea salt which is more natural. Read labels and avoid foods that have 100 mg. of sodium per serving as canned soup, this has about 400 mg. per serving. You will cut down on your salt intake more by reading labels vs. not adding it to your meal.

There are salt brands out there with less sodium in it. You're worred about sodium intake, not salt intake. There is a difference. If you are an active person, you don't need to worry, because you sweat out most of it. So if you like dumping salt on your food, make sure you do some running. Also, the more sodium you intake the more water you should intake as well. Your body needs a suffient amount of sodium to keep your electrolytes in balance. You can delute your bodily salt content with plenty of water.

Before my husband and I split up he had a stroke and I had to change all of my cooking to eliminate salt, that is hard for a Southern cook, but his health/life was at stake. Before the stroke my husband hated garlic and I would have to sneak it into meals. After he decided to let me try some different things (honestly he was too weak to fight me on this). I used garlic powder, coarse ground pepper, paprika, lemon pepper, honey, I tried a little bit of everything. We all agreed that Ms Dash's could go right out the door - uck!
We got it down pat and even today I don't use no where near what I used to use.

If you need to reduce your sodium intake, pretty much any chemical in which potassium is substituted for sodium tastes the same without increasing your blood pressure. Salt substitute is potassium chloride, not sodium chloride. I've never seen monopotassium glutamate for sale, but it would be just as good as monosodium glutamate in Chinese and Japanese dishes as seasoning salt (ve tsin).

i was dealing with high blood pressure for a few years but i have ,for the moment, put it behind me... so i experimented around a bit...you cant replace the taste of salt, but you can substitute it...my favorite is to use 98% sodium free chicken base to cook with then use the many variations of mrs dash to season with...and you have to stop pouring it on your plate!!!the chicken base with the seasonings are pleasing and salty in a different way...
live with that for a short time and real salt will be overpowering to you...good luck...hope this helps...

If it is the salt taste you like Nu Salt is pretty good. But if you want to spice up the bland flavor try Mrs Dash......the original Mrs Dash in an omelet is unbelievable!!!

Try using Soya Sauce in your food. It has Sodium content, supposedly & medically claimed to be good for health and tastes nice too, but make sure its in moderation, too much or too little of anything can be dangerous.
Read more about Soya from the link below.
