I have had a total of 8 Mustangs, and its hard to know what color to choose for stripes. I would wait until you get the car, and look at the car at different times ofthe day, as far as the color looking different to your eyes in the morning versus the afternoon, that way you can pick a stripe color that will look as sharp in the morning sun, as it does in the afternoon sun.
Also go out and price the stripes to be done, an make sure you get them clearcoated if possible.
All you would need is to be washing the car and your new stripes are in your sponge and wash bucket.
My GT is an 04 and it just turned 4000 miles, its black, and it probably has more washings that gas fillups, I am very concerned about the condition of the paint, so I do understand.
Take your time when looking for your stripes, maybe ask to see their work, and ask them how they would do it.

I own a Classic Chevrolet full-size pickup I had painted back the original color which is Platinum metallic Gray which is also dark. The truck came from the GM factory with light Gray pin stripes that brilliantly accented the truck’s color. When I had the truck fully restored back in 2004, I did not put the vinyl pin stripes back on it, because I knew that over time the vinyl will fade and crack ruining the look of the truck. I plan to have the stripes painted on in the original color that they were. So in my opinion, go with same basic color of the car (which is Gray) just a lighter shade. A light Gray pin stripe on a dark metallic Gray paint finish is the way to go. Why? Because the lighter Gray will complement the darker Gray but at the same time give an excellent contrast. The smallest changes make the biggest difference. DON’T go with a “loud” color like White, Blue, Gold, Silver or any other bright color. As for the price, a good reputable paint shop might charge you anywhere from $500 to $2,000, depending on the quality and precision.

Go to the dealer and order the white stripe kit that is available on the 07 shelby cobra. IT will look nice! Don't worry about the vinyl thing, all these decals are vinyl, even from the factory, and never give any problems. I would go with the white, it will look great!

I have worked on several years of Mustangs and although I say it is a "finer" car. it is so flat and plastic. Oh ya be sure to fasten the seat belt if you can reach it.
Now take a 71 Pantera Detomaso for example......Now there is a car...and it's powered by Ford....You have arrived when you get one, or a 350GT.....Oh ya Painted or vinyl....Hmmm why My 2 are straight and no frills on the paint it just looks better that way.
I guess you could put flowers on the dash like a VW, but WHY!
I am now crying... Why put a bow in the hair of your Pitt Bull. He stands alone, Don't jack with him!!!

Oh I am so jealous! I had 02 black Mustang that I got gold stripes painted on for around $275.00
I think white stripes would look good on this car. When you select a best answer let us know which color you chose.

I would prefer either white or light silver stripes. If you just have the stripes painted over the clearcoat, expect $450.00 or so to do the hood, roof, and trunk. you will have a noticeable paint edge on the stripe unless you have the entire panel(s) cleared, block sanded & buffed level. (expect around $750.00 or more for a nice job)

I personally prefer a light silver stripe or you could go with a chameleon color from house of kolor and have a real cool effect. You can expect to pay about $1500.00 due to scuffing the bumpers, roof, trunk and hood. paint the stripes then clear it all using a quality clear.

Hey, Bob,
if you're determined to stripe your new 'stang. I'd suggest the '66 Fairlane 500 style along the rocker panels in either maroon or silver.
