if you have a problem whom do you approach first?

as far loving goes,i love both my mom and dad equally and most in this world.
But,if the question is of whom i would approach, when stuck in any problem, then i guess it would be firstly depending on the nature of the problem;secondly,i generally do it this way, that whenever we three are together, for a meal or sitting together in leisure times in garden or seeing TV i put my worries / doubts before them, its always like an open discussion, involving me too.
So,its never a matter of talking to one of my parents and then passing it over to the other for a second opinion.

I was shunned and ignored by both parents throughout childhood and my teen years. I grew to despise them both.

Knowing this shocks people and makes them mistrust me, I am spring loaded to answer this question in public or at a church coffee hour with an automatic, memorized, "I loved my father and my mother -- but my father a little bit more," which is the "right" answer for all Americans of any ethnic or racial background.

When asked in public or at a social gathering, this question itself is invariably a test. So blurt out the paternalistic answer without batting an eye, since no one has the right to test you like that.

For me the answer is neither. My father was in prison from the time I was 7 years old. My mother was a lazy welfare rat, sucking the system dry. When my grandmother was alive, she was the one that pretty much raised me because I hated my mother. Now that I am 26 and grandma isn't her anymore, I go to her grave and talk to her there. As for my parents, my father died a few years ago never speaking a word to me in the free world. My mother is drama, drama, drama and I hate DRAMA!

Depend. Usually my mom.

However if I want to do something my mom refuse to approve (move out of country, riding motorcycle, become a Muay Thai fighter, etc...) I usually approach my dad.

My mom usually is the best person to solve the problem and help me out. However my dad is usually the best person to sit back and give me advices and let me make my own decision.
