If the United States is, as many claim, a nation founded on Christian principles and that our laws are based on the Ten Commandments ... why is it only three of the ten commandments are illegal?

VI. Thou shalt not murder.
VIII. Thou shalt not steal.
IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

The point is, our nation was not founded on Christian principles. It was founded by people of many different faiths and some with no faith at all. They just all wanted to be free to believe what they believed without being persecuted. Anyone who says differently has not done the proper research.

It's actually based on Judeo-Christian principles. This is impossible to deny when reading the declaration of independence, which clearly credits God for the founding on the country, especially the final paragraph. But you either haven't read it or don't care. Similarly, it has been established in as high as the Supreme Court that the 10 Commandments are permissble as visible symbols in their courthouse because of the history and traditions of the founding of this country. Your question is like saying, "Why do we have more than 10 laws, if it's based on the 10 commandments?" George Washington, in his second inauguration, cautioned against a nation attempting morality without God. It is quite clear that the founding fathers held those principled beliefs in high esteem.

None of the founders were Christian in belief... even if they did attend a church. This is proven in today's society that one who goes to church doesn't make a Christian.

The Treaty of Tripoli expressly states that our gov't is secular and not founded on Christian principles at all.

Those claiming our nation is founded on Christian principles are usually one's who put down the Masons for being "demonic". Yet, our founding fathers were Masons.

I am not sure how they come to these conclusions.

This nation was founded on Christian princliples. Of course the county isnt going to make keeping Sunday holy a law because we have freedom of religion. Many of our first leaders had speeches in which they talked about God. We have In God we trust on our money, pledge of allegance, most of the country who has a religion is Christian. And where do you think our 3 branches of government came from (judicial, legislative, executive)? The bible. Oh, and lying isnt illegal unless you're in court.
