Tier III schools are not recognized by the military so he will have to go get a GED in order to join. It will not help if you go see another recruiter because they will tell you the same thing. The paperwork still has to go through the operations section of the battalion that the recruiter works for and also the military entry processing station (MEPS) that your husband will be joining out of so regardless of what recruiter you go see, the fact that he has a Tier III diploma will prevent him from joining anyway. He should just get the GED. The military will pay for it. I am the administrative assistant for 50+recruiters in MI. I have provided a link that explains how the schools are "Tiered"

If your husband has a diploma from a correspondence school that the Army says is not legit, and your recruiter enlists him, that recruiter will lose his career if an investigation comes down.

It has nothing to do with the recruiters. In the eyes of the military, until your husband has a legit GED/diploma, he is UNQUALIFIED. If he takes the ASVAB with a GED and doesn't get a 50, he is still unqualified.

Once he gets "qualified" the recruiters are going to be different, trust me.

It apears from your question that the correspondence school lacks proper acredidation. Meaning the school is not recognized by the Army as a legit High School. So to meet the Education requirements, he needs a GED to get in. The tier 3 thing? Beats me what that means. He need to get all legal matters cleared up before the Army can take him. So pay the tickets, go to any court dates and keep his nose clean and he should get in ok. I would suggest he choose a MOS he might find useful for after the Army. Like a electrican or mechcanic for example.

The problem lies in the school he received the GED from. Is that school recognized by your state? If not? I think you may have a problem. Research everything about that school, and then talk to different recruiter. This one doesnt seem to have a straight answer and you do not want to deal with someone like that. It is an extremely important decision.

I guess it all depends on what branch he is in. I was a military brat going up so when we moved to FL I only need one english credit to grad and they wanted me to go to school for a whole year just for this one credit. Instead I went to a vocational school and it only took me one week.

I dont see why it would be so hard but again it depends on what branch. The AF and Navy dont need people anymore. I have been in for about 5 years and due to the cuts they are making for me its go Army or go home. Which means I am going into the Army soon.

i agree go to a different recruiter, my husband is in the army he had a GED, but these days it should be no problem for him to get in. Talk to a different recruiter to see if you get the same answer.

I f he has taken the ASVAB test and scored a 60 or better he should have no problem getting in. Even if he is close he should have no problem. But if it continues go to the officer in charge at the nearest armory. He should get him in without much fuss.

first, he needs to pay his traffic tickets so they won't show up as unpaid in his police check.

I know you can't join the navy with three dependents, and I think that holds true for the air force and marine corps, as well.
