It was an urban legend created by an underground newspaper Berkley Barb. The song Mellow Yellow acctually ahd nothing to do with that. It was a fol singer Country Jow Mcdonald who started the rumor about the song. the only truth in it is bananas contain tryptophan which increases serotonin which ahs the same effects as prozac.

I was about 8 or 9 when I smoked cotton rolled in school paper, also hollow weed stems and corn silk and yes pencil shavings. All this turned me off to tobacco - All of those were to awful to make me smoke for real .

It was done years ago in the '60s and '70s. It was called "mellow yellow". Donovan did a song about it.

It ends up that this "mellow" high wasn't really a high at all. It was all in the mind.
