I have 2 girls with tender heads. One of them with waist length hair. I do the detangling spray and that works to some extent. I usually head them off at the pass and start in screaming myself. It adds comic relief and I can get in a few more strokes with the brush. lol I also use a wide toothed comb or pick. Hope this helps. Keep the faith Sister, soon they'll be old enough to brush their own hair:)

My daughter has really curly hair and has had to learn to tolerate a certain amount of pain, although I try to be gentle! Have you tried combing with a wider toothed comb rather than a brush. Work out the tangles gently from the ends, holding onto the hair above the scalp so it doesn't tug so much. I use anti-frizz serum, same as I use on my own hair, when combing out my daughter's hair after washing. I have never been impressed with the childrens' socalled detangling products.
Also, try to keep her hair in braids, which will reduce tangling from everyday activities.

Okay. First of all, you're probably brushing too hard to get out all the tangles. Use a deep moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Use a spay on conditioner. When you start to brush, START FROM THE BOTTOM AND WORK YOUR WAY UP! This will help with the pulling sensation. Use a brush with plastic protectors on the end of the bristles. When you start to brush, take a small part of hair in your hand and hold it gently, but firmly, without pulling. Brush gently and work your way up to the scalp. The best tip I can give you is to cut her hair a bit shorter so it doesn't tangle as badly. I recommend it to all mom's who come in with this problem. you can try a natural brush (one that has the soft bristles). my hair tangles easily and i have found that not rubbing it with a towel helps. i have to just let it hang there and blot it dry. when i do brush my hair i start at the bottom (about an inch from the ends) and slowly work my way up. i also don't brush from the center back. i follow the hairs natural part and brush directly down in the direction the hair falls.

I'm afraid I tortured my poor first-born because I didn't know any better--but--by the time I had my second daughter, I found out you can put conditioner (any kind, doesn't matter) BEFORE you shampoo and gently work the tangles out, starting at the bottom and working your way up. You must start at the bottom. Then shampoo. Works great.

the hair shaft is like a snake, --shampoo, conditioner, will clog down the hair, after shampooing, rinse with vinegar, it will open the hair and release all the deposits. making it easier to comb. try keeping her hair in braids, so it will not tangle so much, at least till she is older, and can take care of her own hair.

Start combing or brushing from the bottom and work your way up. It works! Keep using the hair products too.

apply shampoo but dont rub it in just finger comb thru the hair...same with the conditioners,,,try a leave in conditioner suave makes one for kids and no tears formula shampoos and conditioners ,,,,trim it to shoulder length it will take the weight off and wont be as likely to tangle when wet

And you are combing gently? Well....try doing it while she is sleeping. Or better yet...play some music that she likes...the key is for her to have a distraction. As long as she isn't paying attention to you combing her hair, she won;t notice the pain as much. But she has to be REALLY interested...or else, she will start stuggling again.

i have a tender head. and i do two things everytime i wash and comb my hair. i flip my head over and comb it upside down. hold on to the scalp right about the section you are combing. also you want to use a comb instead of a brush.
