I'd like to go there but as you all know it gets expensive, so when is the cheapest/best time to travel? Also, how much in advanced should you book your flight etc?

More specifically, is there a season or month that is cheaper? Thanks :)

I would think that the fall would be less expensive, just not around a holiday such as Thanksgiving.
First figure out what you want to do and see, then figure out where you'd want to stay. Ask the hotel if their rates change.
You have to do a lot of research to plan any trip.
This summer is so hot, I wouldn't recommend a trip now.
October can be rainy, but not always.

Unfortunately, there is no on/off season for NYC... you just have to search for the right deal. Try using Orbitz, Travelocity or Yahoo travel for NYC deal packages (make sure they include your airfare and hotel accomondations- not just one or the other). My suggestion would be to book now for the winter (especially around the holidays) b/c NY is beautiful during that time of year and you'll be able to see the tree...
