Well, because many parents have had similar problems with their children. We may be able to help a worried parent. Plus we tend to over react when it comes to our kids, so if we can get information without spending $72 for an office visit to find out there is nothing seriously wrong. Then I'm all for answering a question here.

If the majority of the answers say nothing is wrong, it is like talking to a friend or phoning your mom...comforting.

Do you have kids? Have you ever asked asked before running off to the doctor, even for yourself, or pet? Same thing here on answers....

WHY do girls ask, "Could I be pregnant?" Well how should I know. I was'nt there. Why don't they buy a test? BECAUSE, It is a thought, they just want the facts. Why let your imagination run away when you can get advice, 'ae

Because it is the parenting site...should parents come on here and ask about their cars? Or perhaps say how great their kids are? I happen to have pretty good kids but you can always benifit from someone else's experiences. Some problems don't need a Dr. only good advice or perhaps the dr. advice didn't work. It is nice sometimes to have more than 1 opinion/solution to a problem that other ppl have experienced.

As you are aware, we are all different on this site. We need to learn to appreciate the difference in all of our ages, and there are some commonalities about age groups' questions if they have children. Parents just ask questions out of habit because they pretty much live through their kids. They know what to accept and what to reject for answers. We cannot control anybody else on Earth except ourselves, so know you are free to ask any question on this site as long as it follows community guidelines.
It matters not whether anybody agrees with it or not; that's the luxury we have of living in the USA--freedom of speech and press.

We are just like you; I read your profile. You have asked questions on this site that you don’t feel comfortable asking your mom. Well, some doctors like to make parents feel less of a parent if they ask them a question that may not seem too important to the doctor. Whom else to ask but another parent that is going through the same experience or has experience with that situation. Just as you ask preteen questions on hair, nails, and boys. So please don’t judge until you are in our shoes, as we try not to judge or we try not to forget where we once were.

Doctors are just that, doctors. They may have a medical explanation, but nothing is better than advice from those that have been there. Every situation is different, and many different opinions might have an answer that works. And somtimes, it might be that they just want tog et it off thier chest.

because doctors are just doctors. they just advise you after learning the subject thouroughly. i know you have to respect them,
BUT they'll talk about periods and labour pain and stuff but male doctors really don't know what it is like or how you feel coz they never get periods or no labor pains coz they are males.
so its always better to have opinions from experienced people rather than qualified people..

infact my Obgyn gave me a lesson on labour when i was nearly due and he said everything about it like this is how you'll feel etc and the last thing he said was go and ask your mom she'll teach you better than i cancoz she has experienced it!!

so thats y a lot of people come to this page to get opinions from experienced people.

Its hard to get advice from the doctor that works normal working hours when its midnight and you're fretting...its easier to come on the internet and ask others and more than likely you'll get answers from ppl that have encountered similar problems...

Because the experience is the best teacher. Even the cake recipe sometimes has to be adjusted. And kids aren't cakes. They are human beings. They differ. That's why the scientific and medical approach is not always the best one.

Just to get other opinions. Granted sometimes over have the opinions are borderline crazy, but someone might suggest something you haven't thought of yet. But I agree, serious issues should be brought up to doctors first.
