I was joking around one day making cat noises (like the ones male cats make when they are outside) and our male cat came running in the room all frantic and sort of attacked the big fat female cat that he usually runs from. You think he took my sounds as some sort of distress call?

lol, Roscoe and to others, I give both cats more attention than they need and they are spoiled brats so have no fear that they are being ignored. What that would have to do with him responding to a meow anyways, I do not know.

Yes, most definitely...I know it sounds wierd but I can do some different cat calls that any cat will respond too, one is what I call the "Mother cat call" I am sure you think I am a wierdo but I have listened to the sound mother cats make when calling thier babies and I can mimic it perfectly, I used it to catch a batch of stray kittens one time, they were really scared and wouldnt let us catch them so I made the call and they all came running mewing..lol and we were able to catch them. Another call I always do is the "female in heat" lol it works to get almost any male cat to come to you and if you do it in a city...you can get at least 5-10 male cats to come to you. There are a few other calls I have deciphered from listening to cats and I use them from time to time and any cat responds because if it sounds enough like another cat they understand the message, I was called the cat lady by my friends when I was a teenager because of my ability to call cats!! LOL so yes cats can understand you if you know how to say something to them.
