After almost half a century at sea, grandpa Ben had souvenirs that represented countried around the world.

I know this is a dumb question but i really nedd to know thanks!

Yes. "Grandpa Ben" is a proper noun.

Also, you should make "countried" into "countries"... Typo.

And an edit to respond to Turquoise... Actually, if it was just "grandpa", it would be capitalized. In that case, it replaces a proper noun, and acts as one. If you can replace it with an actual name, capitalize it.

Example: It was then that Mom realized I ate the brownie.
You can replace "Mom" with "Emily", "Jaquita", whatever, so you capitalize "Mom".

It won't be true in the possessive case, such as "my grandpa", or "my aunt".
Example: Soon my aunt Catherine was having another brownie.
With or without Catherine there, "aunt" will not be capitalized.

Yes. Normally the word "grandpa" would not be capitalized, but in this sentence it is being used as a title, just like "Mr. Johnson" or "President Bush." Titles should always be capitalized.
