We in the USA drive on the right side, so the fast lane is on the left, which makes it easier for us fast people to run the slow people off the road into the ditch.

the right shoulder is the breakdown lane, a stalled car should never be on the left, therefore the left lane is always the fast lane, because it is safer.

Its closest to the exit & the shoulder. Center lanes are very unsafe to break down in. Center lanes are dangerous for rescue workers to work in. Poor exit access, fast people between them and the exit.

Because we are supposed to keep to the right and pass on the left. It is dangerous to pass on the right.
