I currently have two budgies. My younger girl grew up with cockatiels as an only budgie in a multi cockatiel home. She's learned how to do the male cockatiel mating song, complete with beak banging as she struts around as a 'male cockatiel'. It's funny! She even used to solicit one of my former tiel hens for sex! It was freaking hilarious!
On her list of new habits is escaping the community cage. I don't know how she does it. I'm pretty sure she squeezes herself through the opening of the cage door and the cage wall. I've tried to keep the door firmly tied in place, but that bird. Geeze! I've even caught her flying free in the bird room after letting herself, her older budgie room mate and the two tiels out of the cage >.< . She opened the cage door by pushing on the clasp, forcing the door to spring open. My conures keep doing the same thing, to the point that I have to keep them free in the bird room. I got tired of caging them then finding them loose again a 1/2 hour later! It makes me wonder if my darned budgie (aptly named 'Buzzsaw') taught the stinkers!

the most amazing thing my budgie ever did was to open his own cage!!!! we were so shocked....to find him flying around and later casually walking around the house like he knew where he was going........then we realized that he liked being out much more and we used to frequently keep his cage open and let him walk around or fly ...whatever he liked.........but he would always return to his cage ....to sleep and to have his meals. he was more like a dog than a budgie !!!!
i miss him....he died several years back .

Same thing! Opens his own cage. Manipulates me easily also..will act SUPER SWEET just so I can let him out. And I'm a true sucker fall for it everyday.
When the sunsets my two keets will go in and sleep on their own..they follow a strict schedule that they build themselves. They go in 3 times a day and take naps constantly and on and on and on.
I should learn from them.

I will sing to her then tell her to go upside down. She loves to be sang to and hangs from the top of her cage.
