Like everything else, it should NOT be done without their consent.

Technically, it is assault/abuse without asking them for their consent first.

Keep in mind that the US is the only civilized country where this is common. Europeans are laughing at us and NOT dying from infection.

OY VEY! male circumcision - never mind the religious background on this issue - it makes sense from a health stand point - want the ideal storage point for STD's ? look under the foreskin. And ladies - the desensitization of the glans due to circumcision means the guy takes longer... so I'm told.
Female circumcision is a barbaric 'coming of age' rite, and has no functional value for most of the female population. It is indicated as a medical procedure when certain types of sexual dysfunction occur - and is the choice of the person whose body it is, not done arbitrarily. I didn't have a choice as a baby, but it's no skin off my *** ... he-he... and I'm told at the time, 'the Rabbi only took tips'... (groan). So - yes, it is fair, and sensible as well.

Circumcision, the great debate. While there are really no medical reasons for doing so, many think there are. Good hygiene can be taught to prevent infection. It's mainly for convenience and "looks." So that the circumcised son looks like his circumcised father. Some will go on and on about sexual pleasure, foreskin vs none....whatever. Most women won't climax with intercourse alone anyway, and I've never known a guy to complain about the lack of sensation with or without a foreskin. ;-) Having said all that, my 12 year old son was circumcised as a baby, and we did it mainly for looks, although hygiene was a factor too--and I'm glad we did it, because 12 year old boys are not the cleanest people on the planet.....getting them to bathe can be quite the challenge! I'm talking the "go take a shower, use SOAP, dry yourself off, put on CLEAN clothes" type challenge. I can't imagine the child also having to pull back a foreskin during his shower as well......so we'd be going to the doctor ALOT.

It does not matter about fairness as if it is not done for religious reasons, it is needless mutilation, pure and simple and is driven by the extra revenue obtained by doctors. Ask you pediatrician about the benefits of circumcision in males and they will tell you that it is an unecessary operation that makes the possibility of complications more prevelant and serves no medical purpose in cutting off something that you are born with. If we were meant not to have foreskins they would not be there when we are born.

i made the mistake of not getting my son circumcised and now he is having problems because he had too much foreskin and can't pull it back and if he gets circumcised now I'm sure it will be painful. but i guess it's up to u.

from a male stand-point, it depends on what they think and i think they should make that decision themselves instead of their parents. from a female perspective, i think that uncircumcised penises are gross. so it's only fair if they decide to do it themselves but by the time they're old enough to make that decision, it could be too painful.

Yes I do. It is one of the only ways to keep them from dying of infection as infants.
