Like many of the answers above me, the truth is, you just don't know. We walk around every day interacting with others, spreading positive and negative ripple effects, and we will never quite know exactly how we are affecting the larger picture. I think this is a beautiful thing, and take it upon myself to try to spead as many positive ripples as I can!
But sometimes, it takes a very negative event in a person's life to make the biggest impact. The most difficult things in life can be hard to get through, but they are also what we grow and learn the most from.
That said, regarding your actual question, it seems like you are looking for something positive to influence a guys's life. Anything that takes effort, time, and careful thought *will* be memorable.

Afew years ago a male Japanese student asked to talk to me after class. He told me about his relationship with his girlfriend back then. He then cried because his gf slept with their colleague, and he had never kissed or touched her!!! He felt deeply hurt and betrayed. I tried to comfort him with the words he could understand. After 10 minutes or so, his face beamed. We stood up saying good bye because he was returning to Japan soon. All of a sudden he moved to me and gave me a bear hug. His hug surprised me greatly!!! He pulled away and said, "I'll never forget you." I think I left an impact on him, although I don't know if he'll remember me for the rest of his life. I'm glad to be there for him when he needed me to though.

There was a student sharing a room of my partner in college. He got failed and was on mind of committing suicide on the very night of his getting results. We noticed is restlessness and refrained him, encouraged him, helped him in several ways. He came to his senses, recognized his responsibilities towards his parents...and we further helped him for appearing the next semester.....now he is doing Post-graduation and always keeps thanking us....I think thats the impact on someone's life... though I am not saying we did a miracle.

The best impacts that you make on other people are the ones you don't know you have made. If you are looking for recognition then you are doing it for all the wrong reasons
