No. A true atheist would not want to be a real pastor of a religious organization-- thus if he is pastor and is an atheist then he is hypocritical.

Anyone with the willingness and charisma enough to convince people of ideas they don't even believe themselves, especially when the idea is so abstract that it must be taken on faith alone can be an effective pastor. The reality may be they are complete charlatans, used car salesmen, but their effectiveness would rely solely upon the perceptions of others.

I guess if he wants to be considered a teacher of believing in no higher power, and has a congregation to follow.

By definition a pastor is the head minister or priest of a Christian church, (from Wilkepedia), so with that, he cannot be an effective pastor, otherwise he is teaching something what he does not believe in. It is not possible to be effective with others if you are trying to sell or teach something you yourself do not believe in.

How could he teach what he does not believe? How can he help others to have faith in God if he does not believe in God at all? Are atheists hypocrites?

No, an atheist could not be an effective pastor. Not for Christians, anyway. Maybe for other atheists, if they could believe in his ability to lead them.

An Athiest can truly be a pastor if he is called by God to do so.
He first must be called of God and no longer an athiest.
A Pastor is called of God to lead his people to Him who has called them according to His will God

Hey Rebel........that answer is no.
Why do you spend so much time in rebellilon, in order to be in rebellion you have to be passionate about something.
You are fighting might hard to not believe. Some where in your heart is the light of God.
Here is a way to go.....give up on "churchie" Christianity and just you and God have some talks and a relatiioship..some people just can't do the church thing.
Peace Dude

No, an atheist has no hope to offer. No place to take anyone, no one to point the way to. What would they say to hurting people? How could they offer comfort or hope?

Yes, what a novel idea! All Bible thumpers need to sit down and listen to an atheist just like they listen to their clergy. It would open their minds and expand their view of the human race, history and culture.

An atheist preacher...that I could listen to!
