Ask the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy, they can tell you *-)
I think you need to have a Temporal Lobe seizures to actually "talk" to God. It helps if you ingest some peyote buttons.
If you are just sitting around and he starts talking to you........ seek professional help. At least put aluminum foil over your head if it really bothers you. :-)

God always answers you. God says be still and know that I am God. He talks in a still quite voice. You must be carful when you hear the voice b/c there are three voices that you could hear: your own, Satan's and God's. If prayer doesn't work for you, it's only b/c you don't have faith. The bible says for you to believe and you will (not might) receive. I have been right where you are now. Your faith has to grow and that takes time and life experiences. Just keep talking to him b/c he IS talking to you and one day you will turn around and say hey I just heard the voice of God and it will be more wonderful than you imagined. I want to give you an example or two. One day I was in the tub and God said to me "Do you know why I want you to quit smoking?" My reaction was Huh, so he repeated himself. Then he said b/c I want you to sing. Of course I really couldn't sing before but now I can. Amazing Huh. Sometimes it's that feeling you get when you know you should do something and when it happens you are either really glad you did it or really regret that you didn't. That's God talking to you. Sometimes God talks to you through other people. Or, you know how sometimes it seems like everything falls in perfect alignment and you have everything you need in a situation for it to turn out the way you want it to? That's God telling you go ahead this is what he wants you to do. Don't expect some booming voice to come out of the sky. God is everywhere and in everything. The last thing I want to tell you is this. You know how when you give someone an answer, you may directly say yes, or you may nod your head or even set a situation up so that the person will be able to do what they are asking you. It's the same way with God just on a grander scale.

There are many different ways that God speaks. It's just a matter of us listening. God often speaks through the people around us or through the Bible. Often when I am having a problem with a certain area of my life my pastor ends up preaching on it at church.

Since I believe God is everywhere, I get my answers or messages through so many ways!... TV commercial, song playing, image on a shirt, paper found on the ground, a conversation next to me in the subway, in a movie, an unexpected phone call and the list goes on...Remember that God works in mysterious ways! But whenever that answer comes along, I get this funny feeling inside that this is "IT". And remember to ask a clear question if you want a clear answer...
Peace.

He doesn't. I'd probably check into a mental institution if He does. But he does answer my prayers in things and events that occur. When I ask to bring me closer to the right choice, I feel I'd better do this rather than that. That's good enough for me.

The Bible is called "the word of God" for a reason. If you don't want Bible verses quoted then it's not that you can't hear him, it's that you're closing your ears. The Bible is a tool, use it while you can.

I am not a highly religious person. Prayer does not work for me either.
God talks to me by my family being safe and healthy...and they love me.
God talks to me when I go to a job that I love 5 days a week (and a short commute at that).
God talks to me when I don't have to babysit my checking account and worry about checks bouncing.
God talks to me when I go running. I'm healthy and fit and normal (OK, garden-variety nuts, but normal nonetheless).
God talks to me everytime I drive somewhere and return home safe and sound.

He lets me know answers through other Christians, namely my wife and my pastors. He talks to me through the Holy Spirt. He does talk to me through the Bible. The best way to get real answers to your prayers is to say what God says about it. How do you know what He says about it. Look it up in the Scripture. If God did it for one person, he'll do it for you.

I struggled with this for the longest time also. I finally learned that you have to listen, and wait for an answer. it may not come right then and there, but eventually God will reveal his answer. coin flipping (and stuff like that) isn't the way. Its almost like your trying to push God for an immediate answer, and ending up with one of our own. you just have to trust Him to direct you.

God just lets me know by a sense of knowing. You just KNOW that something needs to be. don't underestimate your understanding of the world and your connectedness to everything and to the Lord. You are part of Him.
