I've been told that to feel better about life, you have to look down upon those who have it worse than you. But that doesn't make me feel any better, it makes me feel worse to know that other people have it even worse than me, and the knowledge that people have it better than me still sticks around. There is always another guy who is richer than me, or looks better, has a gf, is naturally more intelligent, and is more content with his life.

Why are you looking around you instead of deep down within? Life is only what you make of it and how you deal with it. Some people who don't have much are just as content as those who have what we like to think EVERYTHING. You sound as if you are not happy with who you truly are deep down. I would find someone to talk to if I were you and get to the bottom of this before you sink down so deep that you really lose your grip!

Whoever told you that to look down on others would make you happier is an idiot. ^_^

Congratulations though! You've realized a truth that no matter what is there! Yes life sucks. Yes there is famine. Yes there is war. Murder. Rape. Theft. So on and so forth! Looking on the brighter side helps though. I know you think it's corny, maybe even too overrated but really does help. When you open your eyes, and think of your family, friends, pets you find a sense of peace. The little things in life too. The sun flowing down upon you, the rain watering your grass for you. Helping others helps too. Donating and volunteering always gives me a sort of natural high, knowing that I made a difference in a person's life. Going out and doing something, accomplishment of a project or goal is always a positive stimuli. Even taking care of pets, being depended upon. It's always nice to wake up every morning with a pet eagerly waiting for you.

I'm sorry but whoever told you that you need to look down on others who have it worse to feel better is a butthead. That being said I guess the first thing you need to do is identify what exactly about life sucks? Is it something perhaps that is in your control to change? Unfortunately our lives are OUR responsibility. We control our own feelings, not anyone or anything else. I know that in itself sucks pretty bad. It's easier to hope that someone or something will come along to make things better and easier for us. It's not going to happen. Try to focus on things that do make you happy. Try not to dwell on the fact that life can suck. I wish there was an easier answer but I'm afraid there isn't. Take care of you and know that you're special because of the simple fact that you are you. There is no one else in this world that is exactly like you. Yes there are always going to be people that have more than you but there is nothing you can do about it. Don't get depressed about things that are out of your control. I hope all this rambling helped you out.

Try this...don't worry about his life or the people below you. For now concentrate on what you want in life. If you want a better career, you will need to go to school. Then the company you seek and gf will be there in time but you have to work on YOU. How good is a house if there is no foundation? You can do it, it will just take time. And about those below you, make a pact with yourself. When you are doing better in life, promise yourself that you will help them out one way or another.

It will be hard so I am not saying its not gonna be, but you have to stay on that line, just don't detour, you can make it. You just need a lil motivation so get started and you will succeed.

Look. Life sucks. The world sucks. But you know, what's the alternative? Death. Who knows if that's any better? Nobody. So you gotta think about the things that make you happy and do the things the bring you joy. For some of us, that includes helping others less fortunate... but it also includes other things. Nobody else is going to make you happy... you gotta do it yourself.

And if none of that works... go see a Doctor... some people just have brain chemistry that makes them depressed. A doctor can help you with that. Good luck.

The way to improve your life is to do something every day to make your life slightly better than it was the day before. Anything at all will be a good start. It won't seem like much, but if you do it every day it will really add up to make your life much better. Think of all the little improvements you make as strands in a large rope or something, and you'll know what I mean. Good luck!

Its very good that you do not feel better about yourself by taking pity in others who may "have it worse" than you. They key is to focus on yourself. Yes, the truth is, there are always going to be people "above" and "below" you in looks, money, intelligence, etc. Because this is a truth (that you have even realized yourself) the key is to just focus on YOURSELF.

They key is to live in the present. Dwelling on mistakes we have made in the past is not healthy, and it causes us to place guilt on ourselves that we just don;t deserve. Learning from the past, rather than dwelling on it, is key. Looking forward tot he future, but not worrying about it, is also key, because as the future has not happened yet, you may detract your attention from the moment by wasting your energy worrying.

Now, we have taken care of the past and future. What does that leave? The PRESENT. They key to feeling better is being self aware- keep the lessons you have learned from your past and live each moment to the fullest.

LOVE yourself no matter what. You are you, and because of that you are beautiful and loveable. This kind of attitude cultivates self confidence and it opens your eyes to a more positive view of the world- life can be better, and it can be beautiful, full of wonder and excitement if you are able to regard living the PRESENT as a priority. You are the only person who can control your reality, and if you chose the focus on the present and cultivate love for yourself, you will find contentment and a higher quality life!

It takes time, and you may make mistakes, but mistakes are human, you learn from them, move on, and bring yourself to the present.

And from the perspective of the opposite sex, a man with a positive view of life and a true love for himself is extremely attractive. These individuals emit pure stability, and to be honest, this is a difficult quality to cultivate. But in addition to increasing the quality of your life, this can increase your competitive edge over the average successful, good looking business man :o)

No, you have abilities that other people don't have it. Every people has abilities and this abilities makes ourself special rather than everyone. Try to expand your ability, and makes yourself useful for the world.
