if I had $250 000 and could not spend it on myself I would plce it in a managed investmet fund and organise for 80% of the interest to paid out in dividends to my children and my partners children once a year...the other 20% would be added to the capital and thereby gradually increase the capital over time...

I'd buy school supplies for the 3rd World Country w/$250 because it would go a long way. If I had $2500 I'd give it to my mom so she could eventually relocate. Quarter mil' - build a couple of schools, send supplies and clothing to the children in Africa and send volunteers there as well.

With $250, I would help my best friend get caught up on her bills because she just had her water shut off this week.
With $2500, I would do the above, plus help get my mother out of debt.
With $250,000, I would do the above, plus help my elderly neighbor get her a/c fixed and stock her kitchen, plus pay for the major repairs needed on my grandmother's house, plus get my fiance's family out of debt, plus make some hefty donations to Friends of the Everglades, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, the United Way of Florida, Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Club of Florida, the Treasure Coast Food Bank, Covenant House of Fort Lauderdale and several other local non-profit organizations.

250..give it to the church in the Sunday collection
2500...give 10% to the church in the basket another Sunday...the rest, save for the kids college education.
a quarter million....help others in need and set up some education fund through scholarships to be given to good students not just the financially disabled.....many good students miss out on scholarships that they deserve because they are over the FAFSA levels to pay for college/school....makes many kids feel what are they doing well for if no one gives them a reward for doing well cuz the parents make too much.....

Helping good shelters that take care of abused, or abandoned animals. Lobby to get more laws passed that send animal abusers to jail. They're very sick people.
