Well, you kind of hit the nail on the head. It is not just rejection per se, but the fear that they will be rejected in an embarrassing and/or cruel way (I.E.: that you will make a scene).

They are also afraid that you might have a big, mean, jealous boyfriend who will beat them up.

And they are afraid that you might be a mean spirited person who will make trouble for them if you find them not attractive enough for you (I.E.: accuse them of harassment, spread rumors, call the police, etc.).

I don't really know. I am single and I just find it hard to introduce myself to men because I guess I have the fear that they have some type of issue going on. I guess I would need an open mind and just to relax when I meet a guy. Maybe if a guy came at me with some respect and not talk to me like I was some sort of chicken head then maybe I could relax.

It has been my experience that the attractiveness of the woman is inversely proportional to the meanness of the rejection. Well, maybe meanness is too strong. Thoughtlessness, maybe. Like brushing a crumb off her blouse.

Oh Beautiful!
I would be happy to take you out to dinner tonight.
