What topic do you consider too serious/sacred/important, etc. to joke about? And what do you do if a friend or someone you work with crosses that line? Do you laugh anyway?

I like the response about just staring at someone who makes a joke in bad taste, and not laughing. I also like the point that someone who makes a joke like that has a tough hide himself/herself, so you shouldn't worry about hurting their feelings.

I think the topics which should be considered too serious to joke about are :
1) some physical short comings of an individual, because it is our God's decree
2)Some individual mistakes or blots or shame that should be covered, for example a bad family affairs that shuold be known only by themselves.
If your friend or someone crossed those topics you should tell him/her it is no good to talk about or you left him/her alone.

People who have passed away. I have no respect for people that joke about anyone who passed on (unless that person would have thought it was funny and been okay with it). Other than that - everyone is fair game. Oh yeah - I don't joke about people that have had a hard life or who are going through tough times, or anyone who is disabled because of something they had no control over. Their life could have been yours - you never know what hand you will be dealt. No one should make fun of people for being down or for something that they couldn't help. Other than that... yep. Fair game.

It crosses the line to make fun of someone's race, religion, ethnicity, or handicaps. If someone you know crosses that line, you should say, "I find what you just said offensive." Don't worry about hurting his feelings. Anyone who makes such jokes has the hide of a rhino.

Joking about handicapped people -- it's not funny, just mean. Also, other people's religion and other things that are too personal. I don't laugh, i just stand there and stare at them until they turn red in shame.

Humor is subjective. What may be hysterical to me may be insulting to another. I guess the key is: know your crowd. You certainly do not joke about elves with a crowd of midgets.

I would have to say a stupid joke about race, religion or someone calling someone out of their name.

i think the subjects that shouldn't be made fun of are: the holocaust, exploitation of children, handicaps, Sept. 11th (although i have heard nothing said jokingly about that, but i'm just saying it would be an abomination if it was done), GOD/JESUS/BUDDAH/MOHAMMED anything sacraligious...i usual just show my dis-taste in their jokes by not laughing and walking away

race........there has always been too much BAD humor about races other than the white race......too insulting. I find it a bore.
I know we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously, but only a black/asian/mexican (or whatever) man/woman should laugh at themselves if they choose to. It's never good to laugh at someone else's expense.

Making fun of people, in a mean way. I don't find that amusing in anyway, nor do I tolerate it.

have a good day
