You want biblical text? Here ya go.
What Happens to the Soul at Death?
“The doctrine that the human soul is immortal and will continue to exist after man’s death and the dissolution of his body is one of the cornerstones of Christian philosophy and theology.”—“NEW CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA.”
THE above-quoted reference work, however, admits that “the notion of the soul surviving after death is not readily discernible in the Bible.” What, then, does the Bible really teach about what happens to the soul at death?
The Dead Are Unconscious
The condition of the dead is made clear at Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10, where we read: “The dead know nothing . . . There is no pursuit, no plan, no knowledge or intelligence, within the grave.” (Moffatt) Death, therefore, is a state of nonexistence. The psalmist wrote that when a person dies, “he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish.”—Psalm 146:4.
So the dead are unconscious, inactive. When pronouncing sentence upon Adam, God stated: “Dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) Before God formed him from the dust of the ground and gave him life, Adam did not exist. When he died, Adam returned to that state. His punishment was death—not a transfer to another realm.

4 original language words were translated into the English word "hell" in the King James Bible. And children are taught that bad people go to hell when they die. Isn't it time we transcended the fables of childhood?

Hell Is A Lie!

"For the living know that they shall die but the dead know not any thing..." (Ecclesiastes 9:5).
That makes a lot of sense. The living know so little. How could the dead know any thing?

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives
12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.
Hell is not a place but a time.

You arrive in hell. You find yourself sitting in a field - lush and green - with your back against (oh my!) an apple tree. The sun is shining and birds are singing and the theme to "A Summer Place" is playing gently in the background. Behind the tree and on the other side of the field, there are people burning in fire and brimstone, screaming to God for forgiveness. As you take in your surroundings, a handsome man appears before you, impeccably dressed and with an elegant countanence.
"Where am I?" you ask.
"You're in Hell and I am the Devil. Welcome!" replies the man.
"This is hell?!"
"Yes..."
"Then who are those people suffering back there?"
"Oh those are the 'Christians'. They wouldn't have it any other way."

The first thing is the receptionist and the waiting room. Much like in a doctors office but they ignore you for longer, the magazines are worse and the soft drinks machine is hellish about giving change.

Well, it is my personal opinion that when Satan lures us to do evil things that get us into Hell in the first place, they are very appealing.
I am hoping that there will be cocktail hour and non-stop sex, drugs and rock and roll when I get there...
Hey, a gal can dream... right?

Assuming of course that Hell DOES exist! What if they're all wrong? What if Hell doesn't exist at all, that it was just a product of the twisted minds of prophets?i Think we are ALREADY in Hell!

I don't quote the bible -- I think it's rude on so many levels -- but I have a standing invitation to all my friends, and enemies, to join me at the best bar in hell and the first round is on me!

Why don't you find out from being on the good side of the place of death like Lazarus? It seems like it would make a lot more sense to me.
Luke 16:22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.' 25 But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' 27 And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house-- 28 for I have five brothers--so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' 29 But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.' 30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' 31 He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.'"

Hell is nothing more than the common grave of mankind. When you die, that's it. You wait for the resurrection as you are now in Gods memory.
