The word "pray" has a lot of meanings, howvever religious ppl when ask you to "pray" actually they ask you to evade the reality... they wish! They cannot escape the reality, maybe when they die, but then they cannot make any difference anyway

"Religious people didn't make up praying, God did. He said that the prayer of a righteous man availeth much. He also said to pray without ceasing.
Presenting your requests to God is just acknowledging His sovereignty in your life. He may grant it or not, but learning to trust is the most important aspect in a believers life.
