I'd buy it. The Taurus is a Strong car with a good reputation for longevity. Buy it and take care of it, The folks whose cars I end up working on never do basic service. oil changes and tranny service at intervals made my 97 escort go to 156,000 and still running fine. I would say the radiator went out and caused internal damage to the tranny but that's just a guess. I would ask for the compression to be checked and se if there is greater than 10% difference in the readings from each of the 6 cylinders if there is then there is leakage. rings, valves head gasket. But that is what I always do for folks wanting me to check out a car for them. 2 grand is a good reasonable price

Tauruses are really good at eatting trannys. I had a 1997 and it's been through 4 and on it's 5. So yeah it's a good deal for a "lemon". Good luck with that.

I had a Taurus I bought from my company that had 35,000 miles on it. I sold it and it had 228,000 and never did anything to the car and I hear it is still doing fine with almost 3000k...but I know that is not usual. I worked for a large newspaper that had lots of these cars and they said they really were some of the best they ever had......take the car to a good mechanic and get it checked out first.

The price is good espcially for one with a newer transmission.. If you are unsure, take it to a mechanic and have him do a inspection of the motor (as those had head gasket issues) but usually if well maintained, solid cars that will go the distance

Taurus is a good car. They made so many of them that they are a "good buy used" with lots of parts available to fix problems.
