im in guard, so i have to go to band camp too. if you don't go, you might not get a spot in the marching show. at least thats how it is for us. i guess it depends on how important band is to you.

my niece is facing the same dilemma.She just started band practice/camp.I told her to go to camp.We can go on vacation during Christmas.She is trying out for drum major also.
Go to camp !
