She doesn't really bite me, but when I come home she grabs my arm or hand with her mouth. She doesn't bite down hard or anything, just enough to keep my hand there. Why does she do this?

This action is called "mouthing" and almost all dogs do it. It's most likely your dog's way of asking for attention or an invitation to play. If she's a puppy, she'll eventually outgrow it if you discourage it, since all puppies mouth. But since it looks like this is her special quirk, I wouldn't make her quit mouthing. It's not hurting you or her, so there's no reason to curb her unique display.

Many of the answers above are correct but this is not the type of behavior that you want. You need to correct this behavior verbally and if that doesn't work then you should lightly tap the dog on their nose. If this doesn't work then tap on the nose harder until they understand that this is not something you approve of. If you allow this behavior to continue is reinforces that it is ok and could ultimately end up with someone getting bit. Correcting this behavior when dogs are puppies is very important to help insure that they will not bite someone, for whatever reason as they mature. Of course, in this case it might just be that you dog shows you that they are glad your home, not happy your gone so long, and is done with no bad intent. I would still work with her to stop this behavior just to be safe.

Depends on how old she is. Puppies do this with their siblings as a play thing. Adults do this as a control thing. If she is an adult then she is trying to dominate you and I would correct this pretty quickly. If it is a puppy I would teach her not to do this. This would be my guess because I don't know your dogs breed or age. there are some dogs that do this as a I missed you thing.

If she is not hurting you, it may just be a sign of affection. My dog sometimes grabs me when he doesn't want me to go anywhere.
If she begins to hurt you, you may want to look into training.

I have always been told that they are showing their love for us when they do that. That is just how she is greeting you and telling you she missed you. Of course that is only my opinion.
