Nope... it only prevents your water from eveporating. That's why it's advised to cover rice and some pastas when cooking, so you don't loose water or steam, which cook your foods...

Yes leaving the lid helps things boil faster. it allows the no air to come in so the water boils faster. If you dont believe try it out. One pot with out the lid and one with a lid.

Putting a lid on a pot will help water come to a boil faster.

However, keeping the lid on the pot during cooking is not always advisable. You should not keep the lid on when you are cooking pasta or potatoes. You will get plenty of boil over.

Yes because when you leave the lid on , the heat stays in the pot cooking the food faster. Without the lid the heat escapes. (sort of like keeping the door closed when you take a shower??)

well dont listen to that other person, do not start out with hot water, it doesnt allow all the chemicals the used in city water to boil out, yes i do think leaving the top on does make it boil faster, but watch out cause some thing will overflow with top on. in that case leave it crack open on top.

put salt in the water- it makes water boil at a higher temp, therefore cooking food faster- the only thing I learned in college chemistry
