The Mormon religion-- Mormon is a nickname.
The religion is the restored Christian religion. The Church of Jesus Christ, is Jesus' church in our day.
It is the only religion that offers the fulness of the gospel. The book of Mormon is proof that Jesus visited other sheep other than those in Jerusalem.
Study, ponder, pray...
God Bless

Here are a few basic beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Hopefully this will help you. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Saviour of mankind. We believe that there were more prophets than the ones in the Bible (which we DO believe in, despite what you might hear). The Book of Mormon is the writings of ancient prophets that lived on the American continents. We believe that after the death of Jesus' apostles, there was a falling away, apostacy, from the whole gospel. Parts were still around but not the whole truth. We believe that Heavenly Father and Jesus called a new prophet in 1820, named Joseph Smith, to restore the fulness of the gospel. We believe that since that time there have been prophets on the earth. The current prophet is Gordon B. Hinckley, The president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (The official name of the "Mormon" church) We believe that marriages and families can be together forever(Instead of "'till death do you part")

As you can see, you will get all kinds of opinions about Mormons. Everything from it is a cult to it is the only true church. What others say really is not very important. One of the fundamental tenets of the Mormon church is that there is only one way to know if it is true. Once you have read all that they give you to read, then go into your own room and pray alone. It is only when you are completely alone, away from the influence of others - just you and God - that you will feel whether it is true or not. Then just follow that feeling.
The Mormons are just people. There are good ones and bad ones and a lot of in between ones. But their religion is unique and asks that YOU know whether it is true before you join. How you choose to relate to God is too important to let them or those against them unreasonably influence you. Don't let anyone make that decision other than you and God.

Well, I am a Mormon, or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are going to find a huge range of Church members during your life. If all of the information you are receiving sounds like it's going pretty fast, feel free to slow down and start learning the way the children do. Primary songs are helpful. I also love to listen to the Scripture Scouts CDs. We believe in a living succession of prophets and apostles, just like the original organization of the Church of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is at the head of the Church, not Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was called to help restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its entirety from 1820 onwards because of important doctrines and authority which had been lost after the mortal life of Jesus and the original leaders of the Church. People keep saying silly things about polygamy, but any polygamists you read about in the newspaper are part of dissenting factions who are no longer considered members of the Church. The Bible and the Book of Mormon support each other. Also, since we are children of God, we are already in a growing process on the way to becoming more like our Heavenly Father. I don't know why people think that is strange since if you look around you, children resemble their parents and usually grow up to exhibit similar characteristics. One of the Primary children's songs is called "I Am A Child of God" and it might help make things sound clearer. Have a happy day!

There are two major identifications for a cult..
1. Strong central leadership. (Never disagree with the prophet)
2. Extra Biblical revelation (And Mormons don't stop at just the Book of Mormon they go on the the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great price) All three of these they think are purer than the Bible (It's mistranslated).
Mormon have a tenet of their religion that is abhorrent to Christians They believe that if they live right they can become a God just like the Father in Heaven is God.. They believe that Jesus has not always been God but became one because his plan was chosen over Lucifer's is a council we all attended in Heaven before the world was created. Yeap They believe we pre-existed too. As for this Becoming God stuff they even believe that the Father was once a man and became our God.. Look out for these guys they won;t just lead you into error, they reject the saving ability of the blood of Christ to save without works of the Law.. You have to keep all the commandants and do temple work and endure to the end in righteousness to be saved... They are NON CHRISTAN.. I was a member for over 25 years I was married in their temple. Thank God He led me to Jesus. Now I know I am saved I know my place is being prepared by Him now in His kingdom You can know it to look to Christ Not Joe Smith..

Ok, i want to start off by saying Mormons DONT believe in bigamy. They are Christian and they aren't a cult. The biggest difference between them and any other religion is that they have the "Book of Mormon". They still use the Bible, but they also use this book for their teachings and such. I investigated the Mormon church for a few months last year but cant remember much else. Hope this helped!

Jim B has given the correct answer for this.
Never accept anyone who says he has an extra revelation regarding the word. Bible is the ONE and only Word of God. There are no addition or subtractions from it. Anyone who contradicts this is not a Christian. Don't allow the Mormons to mislead you and brainwash you. They appear so good and so convincing. Don't entertain them into your home. Go to site on cults and read about them and the differences. You will know the truth. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding of the mind and comprehension of your subject. All the best.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( or Mormons as most know us as). I have been a member since 1993 ( I was 30 at the time). Many people will tell you all kinds of horrible things about us....but if you really want to find the truth you have to find out for yourself. I prayed to God, and I learned that He loves me...You have to do the same for yourself.

They follow the teachings of Christ, Joseph Smith was just a prophet. Just keep on with the discussions if you really want to know the truth about the religion. My hubby just finished the discussions. He started them because he wanted to know more, and really never wanted to become LDS. After all the discussions he has decided to get baptized. There is a lot of garbage that's said here about the church and 99% of it is not true. They do not practice polygomy, they are Christian and they are not a cult.

Take it slow and listen to your heart when you pray. There are a lot of misconceptions about Mormons. They are Christian--believing that Joseph Smith restored the true church of Christ to earth after a period of darkness after the apostles died. Officially they are called "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." It takes time to absorb and understand all that you will learn. If you'd like, check out the official LDS Church website below. Good luck in your quest for knowledge!
