First you will want to take vocal lessons, maybe from someone who specializes in pop/rock music. The only difference between singing classical music and rock music is your vowels. You will have to learn to manipulate them to get the sound you want.

blues being the origin of rock u have to know blues to sing rock .get blues in ur self then improvise it little to the kind of rock u want .Hard rock must definately be hard on vocals but there r plenty of new modern rock .there r hundreds different form of rock dramatic rock, dynamic rock, progressive rock ,soft rock, slow rock, alternative rock, etc.some of them dont require much of shouting .If u r vocal is raw and scratchy then you may not even require to shout . best of luck and kick *** with rock .
