I have two fog lights on the rear bumper that shine bright red. When someone is being a fool behind me, or tailgating, I flip the switch to On. I'm not really braking, but people think I am. It usually gets their attention.

Hmm all typical answers and not smart ones....If you see someone tailgating you, while babling away on a cell phone, do not attempt to scare this person....Already, 60% percent of their attention is not on driving, but on bumping their gums....If you tap the brakes and try to scare them, their reaction time is going to be another 45% slower.....It only takes .2 seconds or less for an accident to occur....If you value your money, like me, do the best action and just switch lanes...given this is a two lane street. If you are in a single lane street, just turn off down the street. Better late for work because you avoided some idiot, than to not get there at all because you are now suffering from whiplash and
and large deductable.....

I have a Volvo S60. It has a built in rear fog light (Bright Red) as all European cars have for heavy snow, fog, and rain and is independent of the break lights. The cars always come with one on the drivers side, I installed the other side. When I have some idiot driving to close or jabbing his jaw on the phone behind me I push the rear fog light button and then hit the gas. I shoot forward they slam on the breaks. It's great fun.

I remember this one young guy following to close. I kicked the lights on, he thought I slammed on the breaks, so he did as well, I've never seen anyone stop so quickly in my life. I know he soiled his pants.

The rear fog lights on the European cars is a great way to scare the hell out of them.

What has it got to do with you what someone behind is doing?
Get a life and stop worrying how someone behind is driving and watch out for that kid crossing the road in FRONT of you.
Why is it your business to intrude in other people's lives?
Besides you slam the brakes on me I will watch your neck in a brace and probably lifetime disablilty or discomfort and if you think about getting me sued then go ahead I got nothing that you can take off me.

Tap the brakes to warn him you're going to stop. Then stop. Slowly exit your vehicle, not looking at the driver, just looking around.. stroll up to his car..(He's probably peaking now, ready to flip, honking and cursing...) Quietly move towards him, looking over his car, squinting into the sunlight, light a cigarette, whatever. Then when he rolls down his window because his doors are locked and he's too chicken to get out of his car, move close, close and ask politely. "You mind if I make a call?" He's so messed up and confused he hands the offending phone to you. Take it from his trembling hands and drop it on the ground, crush it under your foot and spit on it, drop your cigarette butt on his lap and saunter back to your vehicle...*(which would be waaaay cooler if it were a bicycle.)

If you on a four lane, let him/her pass. If its a two lane just turn off then resume your trip..might be a little inconvenient but so is have someone rear end you.. and all the money in the world does little for pain and suffering....remember if you knowingly cause an accident then its all your fault..

Probably just tap the brake pedal lightly a few times, and light up your brake lights a few times on/off real fast.

Bad idea to scare anyone when they are driving. What if the driver crashes as a result? What if someone dies?

Throw your latte out the window, (try for his winshield)

this also works for people who don't switch off their brights driving at you.

Just make sure you have a faster car and can outrun them.
