It depends. With my first pregnancy I delivered vaginally, and had a 3rd degree tear all the way through my perineal muscle. It took almost 3 mths before I was able to go to the bathroom with little pain. It still aches occasionally. With my second, my daughter zoomed out of there with just a slight tear. That discomfort was gone in a week. I think it depends on each womans personal experience. Having a vaginal tear is painful due to having to pee and wipe that area, but having a csection, makes it hard to sit down, laugh or even wear pants without having pain.

I think it would actually be hard to compare the two as the pain you have following each delivery is in a different area. I have had 3 c-sections, the first 2 were emergency and then the 3rd was planned. All of my children were born in the evening and I was up the next day in the shower, no pain medicine whatsoever. For me, I can much more easily handle pain in my stomach than I could pain in my vagina. A friend of mine had a natural vaginal birth with her first and tore from hole to hole. She said even 5 years later it still hurt for her to have sex with her hubby.
So I guess both ways have their issues. All that is really important is that the baby is born. The how doesn't matter.

I had a c-section with my first and a VBAC with my second. I had extremely painful back labor with both. The first was 28 hours and the second, who was "vaccuumed" out was 14 hours.
As for the pain afterward the C-section was by far more painful afterwards since you have been cut open. I have the long verticle cut rather than the bikini cut so that may make a difference. Last year I had an ovary removed and they did the bikini cut and it wasn't nearly as painful and healed much quicker.

I have had both a c-section and a vaginal delivery. I would have to say that during the c-section I felt nothing, but after wards was in agony. I couldn't even stand up straight and though my insides were gonna fall all over the floor. The healing process is 6 weeks too for a c-section. As for the vaginal delivery, I had a super mid-wife and was given fantastic instructions on when to push, so I didn't tear. After wards, I had no pain at all. I really believe if you have a midwife who knows what they are doing they will save you a sore bottom after wards.

I have had 4 children, thefirst was an emergency c section, and that was so painful to recover from, everything hurt. Laughing, sitting, riding in cars. All 3 of my others were natural, and with each one it got little better, my second son I pushed for 2 hours so YEAH and had a 2nd degree tear. Recovery hurt. I sat on a pillow for a couple of days. my 3rd son recovery wasnt as bad, I was still sore of course because i tore a little, and my last baby was so little i had no problems, I think that Vaginal births recovery is very painful escpecially if you have a bad tear, but I recovered faster from those than I did my section. With the section It was harder to move around and lots more painful. I'm so glad I didnt have to have one with my other children. I think having to recover from that and take care of baby and other children makes it worse.

My opinion is vaginally. I have had three babies all vaginally. I feel that a c-section might be painful, but not as mush as the other. I do however, feel that a c-section is the worst for recovery. Even though I have never had one, I know someone who did a month before I gave birth, and I was up and around doing things faster then she was.

I only had a c-section. I had very little pain before, during or after. My cut was from hip to hip because they could not get him out fast enough. (His heart kept stopping. I had been dilated for 3 weeks and he was far down in the canal) I was out shopping 4 days after my c-section. I was very tired as any new mom would be after giving birth no matter how she did it.

I have not had C section but I had a very bad recovery with vaginal. I was in the worst pain I could imagine. I did have a 3rd degree tear and that made things worse on my recovery. Talk to your doctor!

I have never had a c-section. But gave birth with and without the epidural. The child without the epidural was so hard. I can remember the pain like it was yesterday (it has been 8 years). So if you can remember the pain of the c-section well than your pain might match mine. But if you do have natural child birth please enjoy the meds epidurals rock
