Back in the mid 1800's it was a very popular first or middle name for men in my grandmother's family. I've never seen it anywhere else, and wonder if anyone has heard of it - or might know the origin.

The only places I know of where you could check would be the Census Bureau. They keep records on first names. Maybe try a genealogical company. They might make a note of strange or unusual names.
