Most, if not all, conspiracy theories are based on videos or photographs being heavily scrutinized and seen as false, followed by counter arguments (most of which seem to avoid the issue in question).
The Moon Landing, Area 51, 9/11, Kennedy, Princess Diana etc, etc.
There is no such video or photo evidence of God to scrutinise, yet millions of people still believe, and those that don't, haven't much to argue about because there is no proof to examine.
Have I answered my own question - that maybe atheists could be correct?
Seeing is believing, and all that...

Ok, really interesting that everyone seems to be focusing on the "seeing is believing" aspect of the question and nothing else... hmmm.

"Did we land on the moon?"
"Duh, of course!"
"Is there a God?"
"Some believe, others do not."

Seeing is believing refers to video/photo evidence. Many of you say the bible is proof, so why aren't those that dispute the events in the bible seen as conspiracy theorists. Because... believing in God is a choice... which kind of makes it less believable.

One more thing:
You can't get a bigger conspiracy than a virgin birth.

Athiests were at one time, or called dissenters or other outcast names.
We fear god but don't believe, or something warped on those lines. No one takes it seriously enough for that label to be used, believers know they are a minority and have for so long that the norm is not Christian anymore.

I have tried but just cant get this 'conspiracy theorists' thing sorted in my head!
I am an atheist,I do not 'conspire' with other atheists to prove there is no God, we know we cant prove there is no God. Religious folk cant prove there is a God, the bible is the only 'concrete' item the religious nuts have , they can say "Look at this chapter so and so proves such and such" an atheist has also read this so called proof but all they have seen is a large bundle of BS!
So 'seeing is believing ' really flies out the window in this case, they see and believe, I see and believe what I'm seeing is absolute cra*.
So no conspiracy on the part of atheists, but there certainly is a very large religious conspiracy ongoing whoever first thought up the idea of having group worships was on a winner, pity that after all this time they cant get some sort of conformity between themselves .

Believing is seeing. Faith is the first step toward development of God consciousness. Development or advancement on the spiritual path enables you to perceive spiritual reality directly.

The approach toward realisation and ultimate revelation is critical, if the attempt is made to demonstrate the validity of anything, using an inappropriate method, that is foolishness.

For example if the standard methodology of empirical science is used, then the process will always fall short, the question must be asked, how to analyse something that is beyond the perception of empirical science. If we accept only those things which can be empirically demonstrated, our knowledge will always be defective.

If anyone stubbornly accepts that empirical science has a monopoly on what is accepted as objective reality, what can be done? It is not that empirical science is wrong or evil, it just has its limitations, so to go beyond those boundaries, will give you the opportunity to analyse many different levels of reality, including the development of God consciousness.

What proof is there that there is a god? It is easier to believe that we choose our own destiny rather than have some "God" choose for us. Really what god would allow children to be victims and wars and hostility towards the less fortunate. If we are to believe that there is a "god" we should stupidly believe in the tooth fairy and other such silly myths. God is a need to believe that we are worth more than just the birds or the clouds but in actual fact we are not worth anything more than chance.

Jane l had a fantastic point. If religion disappeared, how many people could no longer be sedated and doped with a hope in something they tricked themselves into believing? Even if it is real, he sure doesn't care. Not the most merciful, or the most righteous...he created an entire planet full of people just to worship him, and when Lot's wife looked back at her hometown (as it was being destroyed by God), she was turned into a pillar of salt for doing so.

If he does exist, it's better not to deal with him.
Let's deal with the entities we can SEE before we start bothering with the supernatural.

"There is no such video or photo evidence of God to scrutinise, yet millions of people still believe, and those that don't, haven't much to argue about because there is no proof to examine."

Ah, now there is where you are mistaken my friend.

Believers point to their bible (or whatever sacred scripture they use) and claim it as 'proof' of god because it is 'perfect'. So disbelievers and atheists have THAT to examine and attack (so they do). They show that the books are full of contradictions, but the believers still believe.

An eternal stalemate.

Religions deserve to be scrutinized, the same way everything else that always promises and never delivers should.

It's used as a lever to control the masses and seems unstoppable in which ever team you support. One thing is for sure - one of them must be wrong!

Seeing is beleiving , but usually those who beleive have seen the proof for themselves in one way or another and that's all they need.

Atheists just demand more proof than others need to beleive. It can be said what proof God is a guy and is something that we can't understand or not allowed to see. But many have the proof in their hearts that he is a older guy and he seems to allow things only to be told when he wants them to, it appears...

Seeing is believing? I thought that believing was believing, and that people took their religious views on faith.

(Ok, took them on faith and occasionally got wierded out by us atheists and started saying that we have faith in the sun coming up and other strange things)

But that and my atheism aside, doesn't a conspiracy theory need a conspiracy? Faith does not seem to give one IMO.

Because there is no "God" plain and simple. We [atheists] do not need to go around proving that there is no "God" when it's an obvious fact. Instead, we just sit calmly and watch the robotic and provincial minded. I find it interesting.
