I guess it depends on what your definition of being happy is. If you believe feeling happy is similar to the type of happy feeling you get when you get a special gift on your birthday, or having that happy feeling in your heart and a permanent smile on your face, then in my opinion that isn't how life is and it can't be maintained for long periods of time. I think the reason we can't remain happy all the time is because we need to experience a wide range of emotions. Long term, through acceptance is contentment. Imagine feeling comfortable and satisfied or feeling that you are where you are and what is going on in your life no matter how annoying it can get you accept it. You are OK with it because even if you may not know what you are going to do you are content with life. You or anyone may not go through life with a per-ma grin on your face but through contentment you may find more moments of happiness.

What kind of world would we have if everyday were sunny? No flowers, no trees, well actually nothing. It all balances out. I don't trust people who are happy all the time. Either they are lying or dumb as dirt. There are too many things that can happen, or are happening in the world to be happy all the time. I can't imagine being happy all the time even if I was the luckiest person on the planet because to be human is to have compassion and to see the suffering of others is enough to bring any thinking feeling person at least some sadness. My pain has taught me allot, and believe me I have had plenty of it all my life. I do wonder the same thing sometimes, but I have to remind myself that in the perfect circle of nature there are flowers and floods and everything serves a purpose.
