Get a check-up, it could be a number of things depending on your age. Also, if this job is having standing longer than previous jobs, then that's a factor. Finally, even if your are not thirsty, water retention could be an issue. You should be drinking at least eight glasses of water (not soda, not juice) per day. As you get older, you kind of have to pay attention to that (I know, trust me).

no, it's not stress related, it's a circulation problem with lymph or veins, or possibly diabetes, heart, etc. You need a check up to be sure what is causing it. You should have blood work done, if that shows nothing like diabetes, organ problems, then a heart evalution, possibly veinogram to check veins, and all that ruled out you could have lymphedema. Is TN warmer than IL? heat and humidity wreck havoc on lymphedema and vein problems. Does the swelling go down at night then return the next day? Do swollen ankles run in the family history? You definitely need to see a dr. If you do wind up with lymphedema, diuretics are not recommended, you would need treatment with a lymphedema therapist. Until you get a doctor, limit salt intake, continue with the water, make sure you don't stand or sit in 1 spot for more than 30 minutes without getting up and moving around. When sitting, jiggle your legs as if you were bouncing a baby on your knee. When standing, lift your feet one at a time obviously off the floor and rotate your ankles in a circulator motion.
Let me know how you make out. If it's lymphedema, I run a support group online and can help you more.

Feet and ankles swelling all of a sudden.?
I just moved to Franklin, Tennessee from Indiana two weeks ago. Just started a new job this week and yesterday, out of the blue, my ankles and feet start swelling. I am thirsty but not to the point where I HAVE to have a drink. I haven't been going to the bathroom more at night. THe...

Ask a doctor. My wife had that problem (on top of a LOT of other problems). Turned out it was from poor liver function.
She has serious stomach problems and was malnourished. Without protein, your cells will not retain water. The water leaches into your tissues and gravity makes it go to your feet.
She is now on a feeding tube (by-passing her stomach), and her nutrition is much better. She no longer gets swollen feet.
Before they figured out what was wrong, she wore those 'old lady' stockings (sold at pharmacies) to force the water back up her legs. This is really a Band Aid solution, though.
The last time that she was hospitalized (last July) they couldn't do surgery on her stomach b/c her liver had swolen to the size of a pumpkin and was in the way.
I don't mean to scare you. As I said, my wife has a lot of other problems. If you are under stress and not eating properly, you could be affecting the normal functions of your body. Thirst is another indicator that your fluids are not be absorbed normally. What you drink ends up in your feet, not your cells.
Doctors can do simple urine tests to determine what functions are abnormal. Things like this are just the symptoms of larger, more obscure problems. Go see one.

Ask yourself a few questions...are you on your feet all day? Are your shoes too tight? Do you have diabetes?
Do you smoke? Any breathing problems or heart trouble?
I know that swelling feet and ankles "can" be a sign of congestive heart failure, but if you have other symptoms, I'd not worry too much about that.
If you do have a history of lung or heart problems you should see a dr. ASAP.
I wish you the best.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

There are probably many reason for feet and ankles to swell but heart disease is one of them. I strongly suggest that you make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. He'll probably tell you it's nothing but if it's something serious you'll want to start treatment right away.
Please go.

If your new job is a "Sitting" one ,try
sitting in different positions. Move around a bit
and walk some. Go to the Bathroom even if you don't need to. Drink some water too.
