So @ 3 am she woke up with a 102.5 temp.. i gave her tylenol it barely dropped.. 4 hrs later i gave her more.. same thing i call the doctor and go in..
the do all the normal look see to check her, she has a temp of 102.8 when we get there BTW. So they do the whole exam and find nothing at all.. so outta no where they decide to do bloodwork, and a urine sample which means a cath.
Needless to say she was over due for tylenol, i asked 3 times they said to wait do this n that first... after a 3 hr dr. visit we get sent home with NO ANSWERS for the fever, and no tylenol in her no recheck on the temp. At this point she is like sleeping. So dumbfounded we leave, as we are pulling around the dr. parking lot( which is in the same building as the Hospital. She has a seizure in the car... I rushed back around the building to the ER hysterically. They take her temp its 104.4 !!! Seizure was brought on by high fever..They gave her motrin & tylenol to knock it down. ( cont. in details )

I don't understand why they didn't admit her when you brought her in with the 104 fever with seizure!!!
Now I know that when it happened to my Son, because he was only 5 weeks old, he had a fever of 104.3 and they admitted him, the blood work and everything just like you was normal and no visible signs of infection.. But they gave him antibiotic and he stayed in the hospital for 7 days until his fever broke!!
I think a second opinion might help.. and I know what the Dr.'s say it is probably viral and an antibiotic won't help but I would demand that they give you one.. You don't spike a high fever like that and continue to run one this long!!
Good Luck!! I feel you panic and helplessness..

OK, my three-year-old has had multiple febrile seizures, so I know what you're going through.
Understand, though, that while they're scary as heck, they're not medically dangerous.
Little kids run hot. Some pediatricians will tell you to not even treat a fever if it's under 102, and they don't worry about it much unless it's over 104. (My daughter's gone as high as 106.something, and it's still OK.)
Since you know your daughter experiences seizures, you need to be especially vigilant. When his temperature starts to spike, start alternating the Motrin and Tylenol right away. (And start with Motrin--it works better, and longer, to control the fever.)
Most high fevers in children are caused by viruses, so there may very well be nothing else they could have done for her. That's usually the case with my daughter. However, some children have a condition called VUR (vesicouretal reflux) where the valves between their kidneys and bladders, which are supposed to be one-way, and they are prone to bladder infections, kidney infections, etc. (Both of my daughters have this.) I'm sure that's why the hospital tested your daughter's urine, and the fact that the sample came back clean is a good sign. I'm sure she just had a virus.
Unfortunately, kids who run high fevers and have seizures tend to run fevers whenever they get sick. And kids get sick a lot. So you should get very familiar with the drill: always traveling with Tylenol or Motrin or both, letting your daughter sit in a warm bath to cool her down, putting her in front of a fan if you have to, dressing her lightly, and getting up every three or four hours to check on her whenever she's sick.
One other note: it's actually not the height of the fever that causes the seizure, but the speed at which the fever spikes. It's the fact that your daughter went from 102 to 104 very quickly. And that is common, and happens, and it's the reason you have to be looking out. These fevers DO come out of nowhere, and while they can happen any time of day, they tend to spike at night.
I know it's scary, but you'll learn to manage it, and it's not doing your daughter any damage.
Aside from really terrible customer service, I don't think the hospital did anything wrong.

My daughter has febrile seisures too. Relax they will out grow them by five and aren't shown to do any permanent damage or lead to seizures later in life. when it happens stay calm and make sure she is secure in a place that can't do harm to her. turning blue is normal during the seizure DO NOT TRY TO PULL HER TONGUE she will not choke on it that is just a myth ask your dr
Make sure to rotate tylenol and motrin every 3 hrs and make sure you give the right doses. motrin has two different doses depending on how high the fever is, get a detailed list from your dr. use cool wash cloths and cool baths (not cold, do not let her start shivering) in between. It could be just a virus in which case all you can do is wait it out. if they did a blood test they will know with in 48 hrs if there is anything else in her system.
if she was seen by anything other than a pediatrician I would suggest having her re-evaluated. even the best adult's dr can over look something in the young ones
good luck

My daughter had the exact same thing happen to her when she was 7 mo. old (including the seizure). Her second seizure came on while we were in the ER. It lasted so long that they had to medicate her heavily to stop it. She was in the hospital for 5 days. Finally, they let us go because she got better. They also had no explanation. The day after we were discharged, she broke out in a very fine rash. It turns out that it was baby measles. If this is what your daughter has, nothing is going to bring down her fever. My daughter's temp was extremely high the whole time that we were in the hospital. If I were you, I would monitor her very closely and wipe her frequently with a lukewarm towel. Also, make sure that she is drinking plenty of fluids because dehydration will make the seizures even more likely than they already are to return.

I would sue the sh*t outta that hospital, girl.
For one, if a baby is running a fever (babies and toddlers run fevers, no matter what you do), you alternate tylenol and motrin. Tylenol at first, and then four hours later, motrin. PERIOD. It's a tried and true remedy. You wait forty eight hours and see if the fever breaks. If it does not, it's time to go to the doctor.
If she ends up with a fever like that again, give her tylenol first, and then put her in a bathtub of cool (not cold) water.
I'm not kidding. Get a lawyer. The hospital is going to charge you for all of that, which may not have happened if they had administered tylenol or motrin in the first place.

Continue alternating your Tylenol and Motrin, you can try cold compresses(washcloths will work)under each armpit and between the groin, if she will leave them there! That would be a very scary situation but if she continues to have the elevated temp. in the a.m. I would consult her Ped. for direct orders on what to do considering the high fever would be over 24hrs. The lab work and UA will be able to give you answers though that could take at least 2 days for results. Make sure she is drinking alot of fluids, Pedialyte, she could dehydrate easily with her body temperature being so elevated. Good Luck and I wish you and your daughter luck on finding the stem of the temperature.

when you go back to the doc have them check and see what her white blood cell count looks like. As a kid i had the same kind of fever but mine lasted for 4 years on and off. I had a low white blood cell count and they never did find out what was wrong with me but i survived and i am 21 now. Keep rotating the tylanol and mortin just like the doc told you to. It will break it jst might take more time than you like. If the fever goes really high again get her back to the hospital so they can keep doing tests. but they are right if they dont know what it is than there is nothing they can do that you cant for the fever. i hope everything gets better for you Good luck.

Are you sure she doesn't have an ear infection? I took my son to the ER one night with a very high temp (we waited for about two hours!) and he had an ear infection. High fevers usually signal some kind of infection because the body is trying to kill the bacteria/virus by getting to hot for it. My son started having little seizures too by the way. It scared me to death so I know how you feel. Good luck, I hope everything turns out well.

I think you have some good advice on here so far......
Break her temp by putting her in a luke warm bath (never did this to mine b/c I dont like to take a bath when I am feverish or sick so....didnt make her, but this is what i was always told.) Keep a cool wash cloth on her forehead and get her to eat some ice chips or maybe a popsicle will make her feel better. Keep the fluids in her also and try to keep her as calm and inactive as possible until the fever breaks and stays broke.
I will say a prayer tonight for her :)

It sounds to me as if the doctors you are seeing are idiots. A seizure and 104 fever is serious, especially for that age. There has to be some underlying cause-ear infection, tonsilitis, etc. etc., etc... My adivice, keep up the tylenol, keep her cool and hydrated. If she appears to be lethargic and the fever keeps up-I'd insist on seeing a different ER doctor!! DON'T take I don't for an answer!!
