I mean to say that they are too lazy to pay attention and work their mind, and I also recognize that there are some actual cases of ADD , but many of them are not real.

pharmaceutical companies need to profit. See all these commercials on TV for every medicine that ever comes out?? I know, it is crazy. I say better parenting and better schools for the children.

Some may be lazy, but some of them have this problem. I have heard that the drug used to treat it works to normalize people that have the problem, but on those that don't it's like speed. So it sounds like the ADD problem is real, but I'm sure that some people are misdiagnosed.

It's not necessarily that the children are lazy, just undisciplined. If anyone in this situation is lazy, it's likely the parents who immediately medicate their children rather than teach them good manners.

Now, I'm not entirely condemning medication for ADD and ADHD in cases where it is merited, but I do think that both are overdiagnosed.

Obviously you don't anything about ADD. Kids with ADD wouldn't appear lazy unless they are over medicated. Kids with ADD are usually more active than normal because they get bored easily and move on to something else.

I'm an adult with ADHD, and I can honestly tell you that this is a true medical condition. Both of my children have it - my one son is hyperactive, while my other (older) son has the inattentive form that I have. I cheated my way through high school because I couldn't concentrate and no matter how much I studied, it didn't seem to matter. I didn't cheat to get good grades - I just wanted to graduate. Now I can learn the way I need to learn, but I do wish I could go back and re-do high school. It's embarrassing when my husband has to teach both our children and me.
