I like to crack my knuckles.
I don't do it often, but I do it enough.
I have heard both sides of the story that it does/does not give you arthritis.
I want to know, does it?
I'll need to stop.

PS- I often crack my neck and spine as well.

I started thinking it was cool to crack my knuckles, now I am almost 50 and I have to run warm water over my hands in the winter mornings, cause I can't move my fingers. It breaks the little pad that holds moisture to lubricate the joint. If that isn't there and you continue to pop your knuckles, they will get big, out of shape rings won't go over the first couple knuckles and the pain won't start until you are over 35 or so. It got really bad for me about 38-39 we have bad winters sometimes in Indiana and all my bones now feel the effects of my car accidents and all the stupid stunts I pulled that didn't work out when I was a kid and young adult. I have been in 8 car accidents in my 48 years, nothing hurts worse than trying to open a jar in the morning after popping your knuckles for 20 years. I stopped after I was about 21, I broke four of my fingers on my left hand, and they hurt real bad the arthritis is very advanced. It propably won't have been if I had NOT popped my knuckles the Dr said. I need three knuckles replaced, course that is elective surgery and my insurance won't pay for it. So I take Aleve and grin and bear it on those crisp winter mornings. Better hope you don't live in Alaska.

It doesn't give you arthritis. All the cracking is is that you are releasing little nitrogen gas bubbles from your joints. I do it all the time, and I usually can't start my day if I don't crack my back. I start at my toes, and crack all the way up. If it feels better after you crack them, then crack them.

Why stop? Peolpe who never cracked their fingers and toes before gets arthritis, too. So, what is the big deal? When we stretch from waking up in the morning, we crack some of our bones in our body and we feel pretty good about that.
So, keep doing it! There is nothing wrong with you.

Dont worry, youre not gonna get arthritis. Its actually good for the joints to crack because it stretches them out and they arent as stiff.

It does cause arthritis in your joints.I don't think cracking your own spine and neck are wise either. If you want to be cracked..go to a chiropractor.

Most of the time it is the surrounding ligaments that make the sounds. i don't think it can cause you to get an autoimmune disease such as arthritis.
