Possibly, but not necessarily.
While Abraham and Job did not have the kind of Scripture we have today, yet they knew God and obeyed Him.
Although you are mistaken that *everything* was passed down by word of mouth as it was written. Two of the four Biblical accounts of Jesus' life (Gospels) were written by his own disciples--firsthand accounts. The other two were one degree away--more like investigative reporters.
Just be careful with broad generalities and absolutes (like "everything").
I would be curious to learn what you are discovering about Jesus and God, and why you would shy away from stories about them.

I have been studying the bible and it is alive and real. Everything from the beginning to the end connects like a puzzle. It was written in many different time periods. Yes man wrote it down on paper but through the power of the Holy Spirit. I can't tell you what to believe, but for me since I have started studying the bible and learning the Hebrew and Greek the way it was written I myself know it is God. Hebrew and Greek words have different meanings then English words. Check it out for yourself if you want an answer.

The Word of God was written by men as they were given inspiration from the Holy Spirit; therefore, the Bible is true! Of course you find God/Jesus through nature; after all, God created nature just as he created everything else. I, too, find God and praise Him in the beauty of his creations. God is unique for God is Love. He is so pure He cannot even look upon sin which is why, when Jesus took the sin of the whole world upon Himself on the cross, God had to look away, causing Jesus to cry out that He had been forsaken. The Christian faith is also unique for it is the only religion that used the death and physical resurrection of a man to prove its validity. That's unique enough for me!!

Every body is different in what we really believe as there are so many different cultures & religions. But trust me I can tell you know we wouldnt honestly be here if there wasnt such a holy spirt & a God up above us. I honestly think you are confused. The Bible was written by men who were led by the Holy Spirit which gave them God's word directly.
You want to know something many of times when I have been to church the Lord has actually touched me, (might sound scarey but it's honestly true). I have often prayed in toungs, & have gone on missionerys preaching the word around the world.
GOD BLESS.

yes and no. i think you are correct but wrong at the same time. i agree that seeing god and/or jesus in everything around you is accurate. but where your wrong is the bible part. how would you believe in jesus without believing even a little of the bible? you don't have to believe everything the bible tells you, but i think that it will help you to strengthen you faith just as much as the outdoors. try doing a bible study outside and maybe something will strike you and fit.
but i'm going to change my tune right here. don't let anyone tell you what is right and wrong when it comes to god and your relationship with him. only you know what is right for you. i encourage you to stick with your bible and/or church. if you are strengthened spiritually in your own way then that is what you need right now. keep your faith and nurture your faith. what is right for everyone else isn't always right for you!
god bless you!

The problem with not settling on one standard is that you will pick and choose among the many instructions/commandments/exhortations which suit you. This is basically making a god to fit your prejudice or worse, give you the ability to change your vision of what God expects of you as you please. Even if you say you follow Jesus, if you don't accept His whole instruction, you are not following Jesus.
If you don't want to believe the Bible then you won't. However, if you want to know the validity of the Bible you'll study it and history to know whether it is fallible or not. Ask God to help you to know whether the Bible or some other holy book can be believed and to give you all the reason you need to trust it.

The Bible is the recollection of how God influenced people in the past. Just as you experience God in Nature they too felt Him in their time.
But as time passes and you realize your experience may help others, what do you do? We are not meant to live forever? So what if Moses did not compile everything he knew? What if David had not written his Psalms, nor Solomon's his verses? How do we know of God's great love for us, if not by the Gospels?
How can we live according to His will if not for Paul and his letters? What about the final days, without Revelation or the Book of Daniel?
Yes you can experience Him your own way, but do not deny yourself the opportunity of knowing more about Him than your senses can tell you, because He is more than meets the eye.

Bad news: you're not that original. Ask the cave dwellers.
Anyway, a piece of literature that has endured the passing of time and has invited sreious scholar debate over the centuries, and (worst!) falls in the hands of the G. W. Bushes and Jerry Falwells of this world... well, such a book should command some attention.

The Dead Sea Scrolls were written thousands of years ago and were perfectly preserved in a cave. They are the text of the book of Isaiah and other Old Testament books. When compared to more modern versions of the text, it was found to be virtually identical. Pretty strong proof that the Bible hasn't really changed much over the years.

Don't you think that God in all His power could see to it that the Bible remained correct and true? If you know what went into maintaining the integrity of the jewish scrolls on which the bible came from you wouldn't question it so much.
God meant for us to have His word. He didn't want us to just say oh God made everything thats nice but he never communicates with us. We don't know what He wants us to do.
