There is a view on this site that Soldiers are Heroes. Lots of women boasting about their husband's work, and people saying things like 'Don't you support our 'heroes?'.
It seems in the US that The Military have assumed some kind of God-Like status. I find it bizarre. In Britain no Soldier would EVER think of himself as anything extraordinary. I am married to an Army Officer. He joined the Army, over twenty years ago, to keep Peace. I don't know ANY Officers who are not educated, civilised, modest men, who are trying to save lives, not take them.
I don't think there are any more 'heroes' in the Military population than the Civilian one. It has to be remembered that many Private Soldiers have the reading age of children, and the mentality attached to that but I know that my husband is a thoroughly decent man, who abhors violence and would vehemently deny any heroism, despite the lives he has saved.

No, no, no... soldiers are not automatic hero's. Sorry. I think many soldiers deserve respect for choosing the profession they have, but to be a hero you have to do something more than just sign a dotted line. I know... I am a soldier and I am nothing near heroic.
The heroic ones are those who are actually fighting... and all the while maintaining their integrity and excellence. With those who are abusing their "false hero status" with torturing prisoners and killing people for no "war" related reason... well, there is nothing heroic about that. And if there is... then I am really sad for how messed up we have become as a nation.

I am a United States Marine (1988-1992) and will answer your question as respectfully as possible. I am not saying that every American servicemember is perfect. You will find people that are not all that honorable in any occupation in this world. Yet you have to understand that the person that wears the uniform of your country usually deserves your respect 98 % of the time. Do with this information what you will.

Being a soldier doesn't automatically make you a hero, but for the most part they are all trying to do their best under the conditions that they have to work under. You are citing exceptions, not the rules.
Why didn't you just ask who hates soldiers? That is what your question inferred in the first place.

Why don't you get out of America if you hate it so much? Lord knows you won't be missed.
And yes, anyone that signs up for the Military knowing a day could come that they could be killed while defending our rights, that makes them a hero. Something you'll never understand because you're a complete idiot.

If you want to make a statement, do so. If you want to ask a question, do so.
Yes, just because you are a soldier you are a hero automatically.
You may consider it, the act will help you grow up and accept responsibility to your community, state and nation.
Or you could go back to the trailer down by the river...

You shouldn't condem all soldiers just for the act of a couple. There are always bad seeds. Yes soldiers are hero's. Anyone to step up and fight for are freedom should be. The ones that bring shame to the name of solders are not.

Of course not!
Just because you are a soldier does NOT make you a hero.
Who is WE?
You coward!
Join the army or the National Guard.
If you can't then quit writing and complaining, you have no idea what our heroes actually go through.

Soldiery is a noble profession because it is service to the country with very little pay. Thus, each soldier is already a hero except for those who violate the mandate of their duty.
