The question is simple, do you consider pride a sin? What do you peresonally believe.

I think we have a right to be proud of our heritage, who we are, what we are, but I know one of the "seven deadly sins" is pride.
For example, I should be proud to be a homosexual, but there is so much stigma that I think it's stupid. I would hope that the reason for your pride is justified though. I mean I'm being pretty brave to post about it in a forum with people who could think of me or have stigma over me just because of that.

But I also think people should be proud for being heterosexual or bisexual.

I find it very conflicting and wouldn't mind hearing other people's opinions on pride in general. (Not just pride about sexuality, but pride of your heritage, because patriotism seems like a form of pride too, and I'm proud of some of the things my ancestors did too.) Can pride be justified? Does it need to be, is it a good thing and not a sin too?

One thing I don't really like about Christianity, is the fact that God is better than us, if we were made in his image we should be his equal, not better, not worse, his equal. Which is why I have a problem with people who says God has a plan...God has a plan...but that doesn't me we don't have any say in what happens!

Pride it tricky.

Pride in yourself is a sin. Pride is undue self-esteem or self-love, which seeks attention and honor and sets oneself in competition with God.

The opposite of pride is humility. Humility is the acknowledgment that all we have and all we accomplish is God's work not ours.

Pride in things like your heritage, your nation, and your children are just being thankful for gifts from God. These are not the sin of pride.

With love in Christ.

Thank you for being open and vulnerable about this question.

You are asking a good question, and a challenging one. What I understand you to be asking is "The bible belt says pride is a sin, but there are many cultural things that say it isnt. How do I reconcile the two different versions of pride?". Is that close?

I think you could agree that a general arrogance is a sin, its unhealthy, and all about putting someone under you. The highest virtue, the one that encapsulates "all the Law and the Prophets" is love. (Agape, not to be confused with eros, fileo, or the others).

Sins are failures to Love God, Love man, and have Faith in God. If in your pride you are taking something away from God or from another person, then your pride is a sin. If that particular point of pride prevents you from loving God or others as fully and richly as you are able, then your choice should always be for the love and not the pride.

I hear what you're saying, but you have to look at the big picture.

Pride in itself really doesn't hurt anyone, but when we have pride, we can easily have our feelings hurt, and when this happens, we tend to want to do the same to others.

For example, the more proud you are of your looks, the harder you will take it when someone criticizes your clothes or haircut or something. You may take it so hard, you'll look for a way to embarrass that person next time you see them.

I'm simplifying, of course, but I'm sure you see the connection in my mind between pride and cruelty.

Be content, not proud.

There is pride and ther is PRIDE. The ability to look at something you have done with the Help of God and know you have done good is a Great feeling and deserves to be enjoyed. The sin of Pride is when we start to think WE do it all, when we begin to forget that God is involved in everything.

A person may show pride in his or her work or accomplishments, which is fine, the trouble starts when it swells into exalting ourselves above everyone else and above God. Think about how many sins start with pride. It all goes back to the initial lies in the garden spoken by Satan, "you shall be as gods..." That is what pride is down deep, we want to be God. We want to be captain of our own ship, master of our destiny. That is why I think pride is one of the worst sins since so many others sins branch off from it.

I believe pride, in healthy dosage, is a positive thing. To lack it is to be servile and unable to stand your own ground in a crisis. Pride can motivate a higher standard of conduct, for example, the person who has pride in themselves will consider it lowly and unworthy to steal, prevaricate, or oppress others. Without pride, one cannot accomplish any worthwhile act nor bring vision into manifest reality. With pride, one will refuse to follow a deranged leader or participate in an unjust war.

I think there is different degrees/ levels of pride, and every one should be proud of who they are and where they come from. Actually some religions tell you to take pride to be a child of God.

I believe when we think of pride as completely our own doing that it is sinful. We can be proud of many things, but the credit goes to our Heavenly Father for He has made all those things possible for you.
