Now what? we still have them..... I have kids and I won’t let them play in the back yard and I don't even want the dogs back there but I have no other choice for now but to keep them in the back yard. Please anyone with a good Idea!!!!

Had the same problem. We have a lot of land that our dog roams on. He was always full of ticks and fleas. We gave him baths, and everything. We tried various flea/tick collars. We went to the vet and he gave us Advantix. It r eally works. Now there are no fleas or ticks. And it is water safe. If you wait about 24 hours before the dog goes in the water it keeps on working for 30 days. I never run out of the stuff. Our vet also carries a tick collar just for ticks. good luck

I am a vet tech, and the only way to get out a tick is to twist them so their heads come out along with the body. A pair of tweezers will do the trick. Frontline plus is the best tick product out there right now and should be applied to the back of the neck monthly as a preventative.

One very good way to keep ticks and fleas off your dogs is by applying Frontline to the dog's skin. You can get if from your vet or you can order it from "Doctors Foster and Smith" catalog or online at DrsFosterSmith.com. Just make sure you get the right dosage for each dog. It goes by weight. If you use a dosage meant for a dog larger than yours, it will get sick. If you use a dosage for a dog smaller than yours, it will be ineffective.

But your problem will never go away until you disinfect your yard. If you can't do it yourself, contact an insect exterminator to do the job for you. Ticks can be a very serious problem, bringing serious illness to humans, as well as dogs and cats.

Good luck.

My dog had the same problem last year, and I went through the same unsuccessful procedures. But at leat those ticks don't go to humans (they are different).
I used olive oil to drop onto the ticks. They can't breathe then anymore and let go. Pulling them out alive can lead to the head still stuck in the dog's skin, and may lead to infection.
Just make sure the dog doesn't immediately lick the oil away.
My dog and I just suffered through summer, and in early fall it was finally all over.
This year we gave him a preventative shot, and touch wood, so far no ticks....

I would manicure the yard- meaning cut the vegetation very low. This should help stop the ticks from multiplying so much in your yard. Then get Frontline and use that according to directions.

Next, call your vet and describe your yard and situation and ask what they advise.

Good luck with your problem.

I would recommend Frontline Plus. That is what I use on my dog and we never have had a problem (and we live in the sticks!). You apply it to the dog's skin once a month. Ticks may still get on your dog just from being outside, but they do not clamp on to the dogs skin to the point where you have to use tweezers to pull them off.

sulfur works great at repelling ticks from your yard. its pretty safe for humans and dogs. I think I bought mine at home depot. if you don't get the liquid you put on their backs, then get some powder to kill ticks it seems to do better than the spray. If your neighbors have ticks and don't do anything to get rid of them you will always have a battle trying to get them out of your yard.

Frontline plus works really well, but I know that onion and garlic repel ticks and fleas - so maybe you should feed your dog a little of one of those every so often.

K9 Advantix works best. After application do continue to pick the ticks off as they will not automatically drop off in most cases.
