If you are purchasing a home ownership would transfer to you at time of closing and settlement. If it is a home to be built you might asked to pay upfront but not take actual ownership until completion of construction. Your best approach is to have a good understanding when you purchase any thing.

I don't know when, legally, but I would have thought as soon as the item is paid for in full, the item should be given to the buyer.......
