Housewifes are usually the one who do the cooking at homes (at least in Asia anyway), I don't know many guys who can cook, but why Is it always guys who become a famous chef ?
eg, naked chef, hueys, and almost all episodes of iron chef.......

Most commercial kitchens are staffed by men and there are some very good reasons for it. The job is hot and hard ,the hours are long and a significant amount of physical strength is often required . Most women lack the strength. It is also very much a mans world with all the rough and tumble attitudes one would expect. A busy commercial kitchen is not a place for the faint of heart-regardless of sex.. Many women that do wind up in commercial kitchens wind up either as pastry chefs or working the Garde manger. station.
Men cook as a matter of choice . Many women do so as a matter of custom and often feel like they have no choice- big difference

There are women chefs but it so true what you said ....... I think that men chef always try to be the best by trying to out do other chefs where as women chef's would get together and share the recipes .

My first answer is to BuddyGuru....puuuulease...you have got to be kidding me!!
But the most likely answer is that most professions started out as male dominated ones. Even cooking. And, yes, unfortunately, they did get promoted faster. But, that's not so common now. However, I think that just as many men enjoy cooking as women, you just assume it's 'women's work' because society makes it that way. I bet it's still not completely equal, but let's hope that it will be soon. SINCE WE ALL KNOW that at home, most women tend to do their share of the cooking.
