My 2.5 year old son walks on tippy toes a fair bit. One of his carers has mentioned that because of this there may be something wrong with him.
He is a very active child and appears to be normal, if anything he is advanced for his age in regards to physical abilities.
However, his feet are a dfferent story..... they apper to be "big boned", they are not fat or wide, and it is not a high arch, but we have difficulty finding shoes to fit his feet. It is not his shoes causing him any trouble as there are never any blisters or red spots on his feet.
Any ideas on what could be causing him to walk on tippy toes a lot?

Having a Son with a club foot ,I would definitely suggest you have him seen by an orthopedic Dr.
It could be nothing but kids especially toddlers compensate for whats uncomfortable...they don't want to slow down..check the feet out for peice of mind.

My son is 4 years old and he has walked on his toes since he started walking we have had cast on both his feet to make him walk flat but we had them taken off after 2 weeks the doctors checked him for other causes and there was no answers and we had trouble finding shoes for him but things got better last year when we got him shoes that was extra wide new balance now he is starting to walk some flat footed. My son is advanced for his age also and I have heard that children that walk on there toes are very smart so this could be a good thing and we just left it alone, we stopped asking him to put his feet all the way down. And he is doing better.

It could be nothing but it could be a balance thing, to which the doctor would have to look at his internal ear, as that is what keeps us balanced, or something to do with the muscles of his legs(calves?).

Does anyone in the family has naturally overdeveloped calves? It may this and it may be genetic and if it is the case it's nothing he may in fact turn out to be a great sprinter or dancer.

Just a few different suggestions, but I suspect it's nothing.

Take care,

Could be he just likes it, kids do lot of weird things. My 8yo walks on the sides of his feet--he ruins his shoes so fast!
But there is a condition that causes kids to walk only on tippytoe. Mention it to the pediatrician next time, she can either reassure you that your child has no other symptoms or she will have the child tested and if they have it you can get them started on treatment or at least help them.

It is probably just a phase. I know when I was little there was a whole year when I wore all my clothing inside out. Little kids can be very quirky and as long as he isn't in any pain and his feet look normal, I don't think you should worry about it!

I did it and I walk normal now! But I have known people who never stopped walking on them!

He enjoys it, likes the attention, and feels a need for more attention. He's just having fun.
