Because some people are able to stop thinking about their own selfish wants for at least occasional short periods of time. We call these people "grown-ups". One day, maybe you'll be one, too. For now, though, you seem like a greedy baby who is fine with taking things from the community (schools, roads, firemen, etc.) but who cries and messes his diapers when asked to do something for the country that is his home. You are a pathetic individual.

They feel pride in doing the civil duty, Some people take pride in justice system, and our American way of life.
If there weren't a few people that like doing their civil duty I believe there would be more injustice than there are, because it isn't far reaching to believe they would drag wino's and drug addicts off the streets to put a show on of following the constitution. And what kind of justice is that?

I'll take your place. I'd love to be on a jury. I think some people are proud because they helped in participating in the justice system. I really hope to be on a jury one day.

Going to jury duty serves justice. How fair would juries be if only fifty people volunteered--considering the fact that many of them would be excluded. And it is a civic duty. You want the rights of an American? Then you have to take the responsibilities.

It is part of an unwritten social contract - America offers freedom and justice for all in exchange for citizen participation, like voting, jury duty, etc.

#1 if you work at a job where they pay you for jury leave. Bonus: non-debit time off your vacation/annual leave.
#2 I live right on the parish (yep, Louisiana) line and my miles rack up, baybee.
#3 catch up time on reading or other casual activities

Simply ask the attorneys to dismiss you, but it usually has to be serious family responsibilities or employment where if you don't work, you aren't paid.
If they have plenty of others interested in serving, they will dismiss you, if they don't, they won't.

People are proud because they know they are doing their civic duty and are more concerned about doing that duty than about themselves.
