To some degree. I think that most Christians forget that despite the fact that it was inspired by God, the book was written by man. This leaves a great room for errors. Even if the first version was right, it's been translated so many times, and most modern day Christians don't realize the politics of the times that the Jews of the bible lived. When you realize these factors, the meanings in the Bible take on a whole different meaning. So, even if the Bible were true, many people's interpretations of it are in correct.

Haha, I just wanna say, this question has provoked some of the best answers that I have ever seen from those crazy conservatives. I really like the one that tried to compare that bible passage to the American Revolution. That was pretty good, it was kinda like trying to decipher Merlin's prophecies from the History of the Kings of Britain. But even better than that was the guy who actually QUESTIONED THE EXISTENCE OF GEORGE WASHINGTON.... That really is good stuff - prbably one of the most dilusional things I have ever heard. His signature is on multiple documents and we have several of his possessions. To have the gall (or maybe the complete disregard for common sense) to question a well documented historical figure, just amazes me. Those people are seriously crazy. Pretty funny, but if I ever met those two people face to face, I would probably try to run away cause you never know when they might try to go on a Crusade in the name of god or something.
Seriously though, as for the question, I don't actually believe it's arrogance. Most Christians genuinely believe in the bible. Now, as misdirected and incorrect as that belief may be, their motives are personal faith, not arrogance. So technically it's just illogical of them to believe in the bible, not arrogant. Don't be angry with them, pity them, that their parents would instill with in them such an unerring inability to question what they were told as children.

Is it not arrogant then that present historians says that George Washington was our first president? Have these historians every seen George Washington? Our knowledge of George Washington (and other historical people, places, and events) is mainly based on accounts that were initially written or orally transmitted from people during that time. And in turn, have been passed down for hundreds of years. Even though we have never personally seen George Washington, we BELIEVE the fact of him being our first president to be true, right? So this same reasoning can be applied to Christians (and all other religions who have a religious text).... in the end, it all comes down to what YOU BELIEVE to be true.

ok if my Holy Bible is false then how can you explain this....
1. In Daniel he clearly explains the Declaration of Independance
Daniel Chapter 7:4 states...."The first was like a Lion, and had eagles wings. I watched til it's wings were plucked off ; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a mans heart was givin to it.
Now if you know that the Brittish symbol is the lion and the U.S.A is the bald eagle it would not be hard to figure out and we have the man Uncle Sam.
2. How do you explain Revelation 6:8 now in the english translation it was messed up but only the color but it makes a big difference here the english version. In greek the color was chloros which is green that is where we get the word chlorophyll.
But it is well known it should state......So I looked, and behold a green horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given to him over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.
HMMMMMMMMMMMM. wonder who that could be ? Lets see Green is the color of Islam they have 1.2 billion people in their faith which is a fourth of the worlds population. What do they pefer? To kill by death. Ain't so hard to believe now is it? get educated before talking about something you don't know about.
If you would like me to show you more truth in these over 2000 year old prophicies then you can e-mail me and I would be honored too help you

Look up Arrogant in the dictonary and see if you can answer your own question.
How can it be arrogance .. its what we believe to be true.
Its like saying that a bird flying is arrogant
or its like a Weatherman telling you what the weather will be and you calling him arrogant for telling you
christians are practiced (will alot of us are) in what the bible teaches or at least part of what the bible teaches.. by saying to you something about it is us using a tool that we know about and believe in nothing more

No, it's their opinion. That's like saying Muslims are arrogant for saying the Koran is true or the truth. Devout religious people, for the most part, think that what they believe is true. I think it's just human nature. I'm sure that what you believe is the truth for you.The arrogance comes in when they try to indoctrinate you and force their beliefs down your throat.

According to us Agnostics it sure is. That's part of what makes people religious: What they're willing to accept as true, despite that it's not logically proven.
Perhaps your question is more like that how Catholics have pride as the deadliest of the seven sins (though they switched it to greed later on in the Rennisance when cities began to pop up), and here they're doing something horribly arrogant by accepting god. I guess it's sort of a paradox... but the definition of pride used religiously is totally differnet than the sort we're using here. I guess you could say that deciding that god exists is in some sense deciding that you are above god, because you determine the validity of his existence, and that WOULD be pride. Huh.

definitely, for many reasons: 1. God didn't right it, man did, 2. man chose to put some writings in and deleted others, 3. it has been translated multiple times which leaves much room for errors and 4. truth needs aggrement as a foundation (while the bible has been disputed for over 2K years)
